Intel Update: Conroe!

I ordered a whole system and was kept waiting 3 weeks as bits came into and out of stock!
I did cancel the order which was good as its meant I can order a conroe! But have instead ordered my system over 4 orders to ensure I get everything when it's 'in stock'!
In my experiance OCuk do not put aside your ordered items. If you have an order of 10 items, with 8 in stock at 1 ea, and 2 out of stock, by the time they get those in stock 1 item of the other 8 may be out of stock, so you are kept waiting till thats in stock, and if another item is out of stock the you wait longer!
They should really put aside your items when you place your order as they have your money! But, like me, you could end up waiting 3 weeks, paying an awful lot of money and end up cancelling your order! Than, you have to wait up to 5 days for the money to be put back in your account!!!

Still, roll on conroe and its all i need! Oh, and a 590 SLI mobo!!!

The other point about ordering things seperately is that it costs more in shipping.

Maybe this is something that OCUK could consider for improving on their service. Such as a part ship policy whereby there is a small surcharge to cover minimal costs.

Ultimately this process of items being out of stock etc, could potentially loose customers.

Gibbo & the Management - something to mull over here I think.

yes that policy needs to change, technically it is punishing people who buy more components at OCuk because if you buy lots of components in the same order people who have spent less will be at an advantage.

Gibbo, is there any chance this policy could be changed for pre-orders at least?

It would cost any mail order company a massive amount to hold orders like these. The margins in this business aren't great, and you don't have to put your prices up by much in order to be completely uncompetitive.

Wow, my post vanished quicker than erm, a really quick thing :(

Are we not even allowed to acknowledge that other e-tailers exist and are also trying to get Conroe stock? I didn't actually name anyone, just gave some dates :o

Agreed, and that's why in our view it would be better to offer the customer a choice to part ship without loosing any pre-order places. I dont think anyone dis-agrees with this logic, but it's really about how the OCUK Management can sit down, listen to our views and workout a solution.

Another consideration is this; What's more frustrating than placing an order, and then hearing nothing for a period of time, it's only when the customer sits back, and thinks "where's my order". Maybe the order processing system could flag up to a customer service rep when their is an order on the system that is likely to cause delays, and then give the customer the option of part shippment.

Wait - guys yes I do know how these things work, and yes, I realise that this will mean resources, extra work loads etc.

All I am trying to raise here is the awareness that we the customers are asking to think about some ideas which could help make improvements in what is already an excellent etailer. Customer feedback is of massive value, without constructive feedback, how could OCUK become even better.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I just feel we could all benefit from this, both the clients and OCUK as a business. Just my views of course ;)

It would cost a lot if they had not already taken payment!
But they do when you place the order, so they have theoreticly made their profit!
Fair enough, you still have to store the items till shipment which does cost money!

No, this is NOT the case, as this was my logic, but the argument is that if they picked and held all the items on a purchase order that was waiting for a back order item, their warehouse would be full. That's when they offered to cancel my E6400 and ship everything else out, but theres no point in that, as I still need the cpu anyway. So i might as well wait.

So to be clear, OCUK has not picked MY order (probably others) which has an item that is on back order. If I am really unlucky the cpu will come in, memory goes on back order, they cannot hold the cpu for my order and hey someone else gets my cpu ;)

Gibbo, maybe a colleague got this wrong, but I respect what I am told and have settled with that answer, if this is incorrect - please let us know. Thx.

Gibbo - well done on getting those E6300 oem's. Good Job.

Whoa, didn't realise that! In that case I'm cancelling my conroe and getting everything else now while it's in stock.

You've got to wonder why they feel the need to censor information like this. Do they think this is the only way to keep people on the preorder list?

Intel_guy - is it likely that *a* shipment (hoping i`m in the first set) of 6600 conroes will get to Ocuk before the end of august? Otherwise its getting close to returning to uni and i might leave the build until xmas.

Yes i'm fairly confident of that!

Moving to the back of the queue if an order is split???

Tigjaw - i done the same thing this morning, I called the shop to ask if they would part ship everything except my E6400. They said sure, we could do that, but you would have to re-order the E6400 and get to the back of the back order queue.

I asked them to split my order via a WebNote can Gibbo or somebody confirm that I kept my place in the queue as I will be pretty unhappy if I had to move to the back and wasn't told in the WebNote reply. Especially as I explicitly said please charge me for shipping seperately!

You guys are all under the impression that ocuk have already sold their entire allocated shipment. It could be the case that this 'queue' for conroes will be of no consequence and you'll all receive them at the same time regardless of you being placed at the back of this queue.

right i have tried reading some of this, are you saying that the 6300 WILL be in stock, and if i ordered my system tomorrow i will have it friday - OR do i have to wait till 4th August to get it?

Is there too much demand for the 6300 or is there plenty of the 200 bought left?

Cheers

Well i just phoned OCUK Sales team in fear that my order will not be shipped as i now see that the memory i ordered is out of stock on the website and i was told the complete opposite and so long as the E6300's are in tommorrow everything will be shipped, and the rest of my order has been set aside. I'm not gunna put to much faith in this however as when i originally ordered the E6300 oem it said that was in stock when it quite clearly wasnt the case. Thankfully i have not ordered everthing through OCUK but it is a strange policy not to set aside stock for orders that have 1 or more item in stock as i've worked in a warehouse previously and the policy is the complete opposite, because as stated if you spend large amounts of money and purchased many items you would essentually be penalised and would end up waiting weeks or even months for your orders and thats not how you go about pleasing large customers.
