Im torn....and confused......AMD is massively cheaper, but is that just an image thing or are they genuinely much slower than intel?

e8400 is 3GHz, and Athlon x2 6000 is 3GHz.....does the e8400 really justify the £50 price hike?

i know lots of people are loyal to one brand or the other, but I have absolutely no loyalty, just hunting for a good deal!

any words of wisdom would be appreciated!

As far as I'm concerned Intel are the market leaders right now. I wouldn't go near AMD. Don't ask me to justify that :) I used to be an AMD man, but not for a few years now.

wow....just had a look at that link and im pretty sure im gona spend a few more pounds and get an intel dual core now!!

......and im just going to go post in the motherboard forum to ask what MoBo i should get for an e8400!!

thanks for your responces guys

No problem, and any P45 (assuming you don't want to run SLI) would be a good choice for a motherboard :)

Being market leader is irrelevant when in its basic form performance at a give price point is what matters most when it comes to CPU,s while ignoring other factors & needs as its not as if every one can afford or will buy the cpu that out performs everything the other brand has to offer.

I just got shut of my Q6600 and moved to a 45w 4850e. Saying that thou I didn't oc the Q6600 and wasn't using its performance at all.

AMD atm is better on the tight budget rig side / office pc's etc.
If you can afford more expensive components and decent cooling then intel wins all the way.

I got my amd 6000 for £55 Retail package as well. Now facory clock is 3.1 on this one for money i cant moan, sure there better and faster but i dont do that much ask yourself is it a need or a want for fater better cpu ;)

Intel every time. My experiences with AMD have all led to a less than satisfactory outcome. Seem to have more resets (hardly every with intel based units). Intel also seems faster in everyday use. I ignore benchmarks because I have a life and it is how something performs in practice that's important!

Your in the minority if that is the case.

Guess we all have different experiences, but all things considered for the things you're mentioning if I were given a Q9450 rig and a 9950BE rig to test side by side without knowing the specs I probably wouldn't notice the difference at all.

The Intel vs AMD debate is heavily dependant on what you use a computer for and how much you intend on spending.
