Have you made sure all the hdds are fully plugged in . I had one that wasn't plugged in properly and I had speed issues with booting up. Albeit not shutting down I don't think..

yes baron, i did that yesterday at about 12pm, before i was in conversation with you matey

no a 54 second shutdown and startup time isnt normal on a ssd
isnt trim enabled in windows 7 with ssd's ?

OK
ive just reinstalled windows and im still no happier with the shutdown speed, it hangs a good 6-10 seconds in the " shutting down " screen
i have IDE selected in the bios, AHCI makes no difference to this either, is there something im missing or not doing correctly ?
pleeeeease anyone any ideas

hi corasik
i understand what your saying, its just the whole shutdown / startup thing is now buggin the hell out of me BIG TIME !
I just need to find whats making it boot / shutdown so slowly
my samsung f1 500 is faster than this !!

Check USB devices, unplug everything, even your modem if you have and see if that helps.

Can be dodgy USB, anything, unplug all other HDDs and see if you get difference as well.

tried all the above
if i reboot the system as soon as it starts i can get back to desktop in 29 seconds
if i try and restart after say 30 seconds thats when im waiting 10-15 seconds in the shutting down screen

It might be a good idea to have a look under eventvwr in the system log to see if any errors being reported, Might give you some clues ?

1: Ensure you have a motherboard with SATA2 ports.

2: Ensure your using a SATA2 cable as not all are equal. I bought a SATA3 cable from OCUK to ensure I had the correct one (its backward compatible BTW). Something as simple as not using a SATA2 cable can restrict bandwidth & hamper performance.

3: Ensure your using the correct SATA controller drivers for your OS/motherboard. On Vista you will find that the Intel iastor drivers are 35%+ faster than AHCI ones MS provide as the Intel drivers are dated June 2009 vs MS are 2006!!

4: Ensure you have disabled all disk defragmenters. Not just the service but also check your schedule & the registry as there are at least 2 entries there to manually disable.

5: X58 based motherboards have the newest ICH10R Intel RAID controller which is faster than ICH9 based SATA controllers (not much but it is faster!). Most motherboards have both Intel & another SATA controllers ports onboard. Intel are alwasy much faster than Jmicron or whoever else makes your nob Intel SATA controller.

6: Ensure you have AHCI enabled in the bios as this is much faster than IDE.

Sorry but all of this I do not have the time to show you step by step how to do but look around here & google it you will see detailed guides.
