IntelBurnTest v2.0 Released

Well, for one, that's a small case and the airflow may not be as cool coming in or as efficient in general, though that will depend a lot on what yours has in it and cable management. Also, perhaps the thermal contact is bad between the HS? Did both that and the chip look flat? I know my CPU is far from flat atm! Also, every chip is different, some generate more heat and run hotter than others, perhaps you'rs isn't the very best.

What voltage does it need for 4ghz then?

If you mean me, Im not going for 4. I think a Quad running stably at 3-3.6Ghz is enough, thats going to stress any air cooling, unless you have an exceptional chip, hits about 73 doing max stress linpack on all the cores, which given its a damn warm day here atm for the time of year is pretty decent. Contact with the cooler is fine, as I dropped temps substantially changing to this cooler from a Zalman 9700. Im pretty sure it's the power though considering as other failed overclocks just reboot, my corsair isn't new anymore and will have aged a bit. :)

Shame really as I memtested my ram stable for 10 hours at 960 (480!) and it's only DDR2 800, for 2GB Dimms, that's pretty decent (2.05v up from 2v, as figured the tiny extra may help) :)

Edit: nm realised you meant the guy I was responding to also!

No, sorry I meant the guy above but you posted faster!

What you say is true, most people with quads are quite happy at 3.6 and no more, mainly because they're not capable of an awful lot more! What PSU model is it then, I wouldn't imagine anything like the 520W or above would have that sort of issue.

Tis a 1-2yr old 520W Corsair, with a bit of aging and it may as well be a 450 hehe apparently judging by the power generators, this Q6600 is likely pulling the best part of 200W by itself loaded. (could also be the mobo not able to supply the required wattage of course, as my vdroop is rather nasty)

Still, when you're stress testing you're not usually using the GFX much really, so I would expect it to cope. However, i've had 2 of those go bang on me to date, so who knows. From what I understand they're based on seasonic PSU's, like quite a few of the more popular brands seem to be.

Your PSU should be fine, I'm running a 2.5 year old HX520 and 2 year HX620 with no ill signs being shown.

Well seems a little odd that it shuts down regardless of temps, voltage applied, which doesnt happen anywhere else, so seems more likely to be mobo/psu than anything else, if it was the CPU it'd just reset like normal, and I noticed most of the people with high Q6600 overclocks quoting substantially higher PSU, so seemed a likely culprit. Still can't complain too much with 3.4Ghz and RAM running DDR906.
