My folks seem to have an intermittent issue with Bt Bb internet using the white box Bt homehub.
Sometimes the data light won't light on the bb dsl modem, all other lights are on, and they have no connectiviity, if you switch the computer off the data light comes on, then switch computer back on, and light dies.
Ten days ago it stopped working in this fashion, and after a couple of days worked again fine. It has worked for several days now, yet this evening died. I am quite perplexed.

Resetting the modem has no effect. I have no other devices to check, but the computer box is plugged into eternet, attempting to connect via wireless also fails. The house across the street on same bt package and its connection has been unaffected.

Suggestions please.

can you login to the home hub at all? you should have some documentation telling you how to access it's web interface. from here you might be able to tell if it's the connection dropping or a problem with the hub itself.

If they still have one of the white ones, I would guess that they haven't actually renewed their contract with BT for a few years now.

If they are not currently 'under contract', why not get them to contact Customer Options, and say that they are thinking of leaving BT. They will then almaost certainly be offered a better deal than they have at the moment, and also one of the new BT Home Hub Version 3 models.

If they are still having connection problems them, it might be time to arrange for a visit from a BT (or Openreach!) engineer.

Worth trying.
Won't be there until sunday, but i shall give that a go.
Anyone have the default login details for a white box bt homhub?

I believe there is some details on the back of the hub as there is on mine, although it's v2, not v1.

There's also a business card type thing that comes with the hub that has the password and details on.

Try using a laptop with a battery and just the router, sounds like REIN to me coming from the psu of the pc, only way to know will be try the router etc with the pc off.

Could also be just had its days but suspect with turing the device off

That's very interesting lemzip.
I shall give it a go, even an iphone connecting wirelessly from another room should give us some indication.
Rather hope it isn't the PSU, else it'll be yet another RMA to OcUK, but if it is then at least i will have IDed the cause.

Great shout, and certainly worth investigating come Sunday.
