Intermittent Fasting

We've evolved somewhat from those days... I understand your point though. However for sportsmen, and weightlifters that sort of behaviour/regimen doesn't achieve anything productive.

Plenty of weightlifters still do no/low carb cuts. I think you just need to do what works best for you and stop reading too much into bro science.

Bro science and me in the same sentence?!

Right ok.

As a wannabe weightlifter, training on low/no carbs is a nightmare: no force, no speed, no explosion of powahz! for Olympic lifting.

Diesel-esque powerlifting is easier on low-carb, but it is still unpleasant. And I don't even lift. :(

Both Lyle McDonald and Alan Aragon think low carb is silly for athletes/srs gym rats and they are like the pillars of interwebz nutrition science.

For worker joe it's a decent choice though. I like having lower carb rest days mainly because it gives you the chance to bump up fats and eat different things, and, on a cut you probably don't want fat to go too low anyway for hormonal reasons, and protein needs to be a priority macro, so carbs are the macro that suffers.

This is exactly what I found.
For people who just diet and don't do exercise, low carb is fine. In Hollywood, low carb diets are all the rage and they definitely work.

However, when I tried it, simply running for longer than 10 minutes became a serious challenge. I then removed the limitation on carbs, took the day off the next day and "carbed up" and the following day, running for 1 hour was a breeze.

Perhaps other people respond differently, but for athletic performance, I have to be carbed up.

The high fat, low carb diet just doesnt work for me.

Furthermore, those who are practising IF AND doing lots of exercise - I find this extremely difficult to do. Basically, after serious physical exertion, I get seriously hungry. This is the time where your body is able to soak up protein and carbs, the best. So, restricting calorie intake at this crucial time seems (logically) counter-productive.

Another point is that professional athletes do not practise low carb diets or IF diets. They eat nice a clean when they want. They train hard. They are fantastically fit/strong. Why can't we take their lead?

Yes, that's pretty much what all the research says.

I like carb cycling for dieting because it helps vary what foods I eat on training/rest days on poverty cals without suffering from either low fat or low carb related issues, but don't do the calorie cycling as much now (e.g. -30/+10), since for lowering bodyfat it's much quicker to just do a straight daily deficit (with a refeed day chucked in once/twice a week depending on how severe the deficit is and current bf level). On a bulk I'd probably still do it but less of a swing (maint rest days and added carbs for a surplus training days or something).

I think you might have misunderstood the IF protocols :)

While following the IF protocol you should be eating your biggest meal of the day PWO.
