Internal as external backup - format?

I'd like to use a new 'internal' HD (WD caviar blue) as an external backup in an enclosure which I have.The enclosure has SATA as well as USB connections(PC has front SATA slot). Will I need to format the new disk as if it's internally installed or will it be 'plug and play' Thanks.

Format to NTFS (or whatever you use) as normal. Doesn't make any difference the drive is still used in the same way.
