I hope it has Chrome's "press Tab on the address bar to search a website" and "select some text that is actually a web address and right-click and choose 'Go to http://x'" features.

I'm using IE 9 and I dont think its that bad to be honest I actually love the new design...

Stelly

I used the beta until I did a new build. It didn't take long to get used to the new changes and it is quick. I'll now wait for the official release.

I'm really looking forward to the release candidate of Internet Explorer 9. I have been using Internet Explorer 9 Beta, Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta, Google Chrome Beta and Opera 11.01 for a while now. They're all excellent web browsers. In terms of speed, while I have found them all to be pretty fast, I find Internet Explorer 9, Google Chrome and Opera 11.01 about on par with each other, with Mozilla Firefox 4.0 being slightly slower than them all. :)

I just hope they address some websites compatability, Flash CPU useage (till HTML5 takes over :P) for x64 versions and thats it. I showed my mate IE9 once and he actually said "Wow that was blimmin quick" :D

I've been using the IE9 beta since it was released and find it to be mostly excellent bar some (understandable given it isn't final) bugs. The 64-bit build was especially prone to crashing with the 64-bit Flash Player "square" preview but the 32-bit version has proven to be very stable.

It is certainly fast on my machine, slower than Chrome but faster than Firefox 3.6.13 and 4.0 beta 11. I don't like Chrome much though hence it isn't my main browser. The way Chrome displays and downloads stuff is clumsy (it's much better in Firefox and especially IE9 as that has a Save As option) plus the location of the bookmarks on the left irritates me (yes, you can use the bookmark bar but it can only hold so many). IE9 strikes a nice balance between Firefox and Chrome whilst offering a nicer interface IMO. That's why it is now my preferred browser of choice.

My only niggles with IE9, and earlier versions of IE too, is that it doesn't seem to like remembering usernames and passwords for the regular sites I visit unlike Firefox or Chrome. It seems to remember them for a while (after prompting me to save the details) then a few days later forgets them for no logical reason. Firefox has an excellent Password Manager in case I forget my username or password but, ironically, doesn't really need it as it always retains passwords/usernames for sites I've opted to remember my details for. IE could really do with such a feature as well. Sure, it is a security risk but I'm the only user of my PC anyway and Firefox locks its Password Manager with a password anyway.

Also IE9 like IE8 doesn't always display websites properly even with the compatibility mode enabled. I've always found this strange considering that IE is the most wildly used browser available. True, it applies to only a handful of sites but Firefox and Chrome don't seem to have any issues at all.

got it installed and it..... sucks. :p

i tried importing my bookmarks but you can't highlight and drag the contents of one folder to another. pathetic. i'm not sure i even want to try it if it can't do something so basic. :(

Not quite sure what you're trying to do but, as far as I'm aware, Internet Explorer's 'Favorites' are just the contents of a physical folder in your user profile with a bunch of shortcuts in it. Drag and drop's not a problem - it works the same way as any other folder on windows (because it is one).

well thanks for the tip. it does solve my immediate problem. :)

but using explorer to re-arrange bookmarks instead of having a proper bookmarks manager is still a little bit naff. you need a window with 2 panes - like explorer of course. and firefox, chrome, etc.

dont have any problems with ie8 remembering my passwords etc, never had it just forget them

IE9 RC to be released today
http://thetechjournal.com/internet/i...ruary-10.xhtml

It seems to be widely speculated that IE9 RC is going to be released officially later today.

Since trying the beta it's taken over from Chrome as my browser of choice and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this.

Anyone else using IE9?

edit: Now available: Windows 7 64 bit version here: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...s7-x64-enu.exe

That's the RC version, and not the RTM version, I'll wait for the Ready To Move(RTM) version before I remove the Beta.

Aye the Release Candidate which implies it's not far from being in shippable or RTM (Release to Manufacturing) form.

Removing the beta IE9 and installing this now :)

I just ran it and it did an update and installed fine.

Scrolling up and down with this is silky smooth. Loads all the pages quickly and handles the HiRes Screen Shot thread well. Probably won't be my main browser but I will sure use it a lot more than I did with IE8.
