Hi all,

IE 8 is not to be included with European versions of Windows 7, but my Mrs just raised an interesting question.

If you don't have a browser to start with, how are you meant to download a browser! (assuming you only have access to one computer obv)

Have the installer on a flash drive, or use a CD. MS have said they'll try and make IE8 CDs available at PC retailers, and pre-built machines will have a browser of their choice already installed. MS also mentioned having an FTP link available, not sure how that'll work.

It will most likely be on MS update and you dont need a browser for that on Vista/Win7.

The reason it's not included in the EU is because of antitrust issues. It's disgusting how Apple always gets aways with way worser stuff, and MS cannot even include IE8 in there own OS without getting fined by the EU.

That actually sucks quite a bit if I am honest. I am guessing on pre-made systems the makers will need to supply CD's or something.

For people like you and I who make our own... hi there USB stick :p

Erm... wget? :p

But on a more serious note, I'm expecting a box to pop-up asking me to select an internet browser to install upon setup:
IE 8
Firefox
Opera
Chrome

These would be check boxes (allowing more than one to be installed). This would occur in an ideal world, anyway.

Windows Update has not been a website since Vista :p

WINKEY+PAUSE = Windows Update link :p

Isn't Windows Update a website though?

Not since Vista.

It would be good, but then you'd have other sources complaining that [lesser known browser variant] isn't included in the list, thus 'stifling competition'.

and in an ideal world, every time you checked the IE 8 box, it would uncheck and come up with a box saying "Don't even bloody think about it, now check a different box and go wash your hands, you disgust me"
