Im posting in hardware as I post in the Internet thread and get almost no help as there is no one active in it.

Situation is, Im using a SKY as my internet provider, I have a Sagem F@ST 2504 V3.1 if that made any sense router. I was using it fine on the old computer, download where extremely fast, now I have changed to my new computer which I just built and im downloading files like Vent, CSS, Adove Flash Player at 3-4KB/sec and it wont move. I did a speed test and im at 4.88MB/sec download and 0.33MB/sec Upload, so thats fine, where else could it be bottlenecked?

Chipset and Lan drivers installed?

Is it the same windows install or a clean install?

Hardware, try another NIC, router. Are you connecting with wireless? try another channel.

Dont even know what a Network Interface Card is :|
Thing is, sometimes its fast, like it was in the old computer and sometimes it slow......
It will go to 500kb/sec for a few minutes then go back down to 40kb/sec

A Network Interface Card is a card in your computer that deals with networking- it's where you plug in your network cable. It may well be integrated into your motherboard.

It sounds like you're just dealing with the wonders of sky broadband. I'd recommend using a downloader client like Download Accelerator Plus (other posters may be able to recommend a better one; this one works well but there's quite a lot of ads). It takes best advantage of your connection and basically uses magic to make downloads go faster, and also deals with issues like disconnects very well.

CNET Downloads is a reputable site with a lot of software like this.

Downloaded the Download Accelerator, but I was looking for something that could download a WOW patch even faster, as with the DA I need to download via the browser?

Try ticking the background throttling tickbox on the WoW downloader, that generally gets the job done quicker, although it will basically kill the download speed of everything else on the network while it's on.

Blizzard's downloader generally gets pretty good speeds. How bad is it?

Well sometimes it will go to 300-400kb for a few minutes when I open it, then it will kick it down to 3-4kb then its usually about 30-70kb after 10mins and onwards.
Yea I clicked that, didnt make much of a difference :|
Big 5.2GB file as well!

The only other thing I can suggest is changing your DNS servers on your router, as Sky's are likely rubbish.

The OpenDNS ones are good- set the primary server to 208.67.222.222 and the secondary one to 208.67.220.220, then run "ipconfig /flushdns".

If you know how to load up your router's homepage (typically 192.168.1.254, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1, type these into your web browser to try), then there should be a DNS option on the connection settings.

If you can't get it working, go to the Control Panel, then click on Network and Sharing Center.

Below the diagram of your network, on the left there should be a home symbol with the name of your network, and on the right there should be "Wired Network Connection" in blue with the network name underneath it again.

Click on the "Wired Network Connection" button, then click Properties, select IPv4, and you should see the option.

Probably under WAN setup, or just plain setup- you may have to go through the whole "configure your connection" thing again to do it, which is a pain.

Do the above steps work?
