Internet in new flat

HI,

I'm in the process of moving flats at the moment and want to get the internet sorted. There is a phone line in the new flat but it is not connetced. Now I have just been on the online chat with BT and unless I am massively mistaken it seems I need to take out a conttact with BT in order for them to reconnect the line? They won't just charge to reconnect without subscribing to one of there services.

Now I do not need a home phone (I have a mobile) so how do I go about getting the internet through a different ISP (preferably Be). Virgin is not in my flat so it has to be through the BT line.

Confused!

Thanks

You need an active BT line to be able to order Be/O2 or any other ISP to be honest.

Sky etc. can do the line for you with a voice service but you would need to then take out their internet service too.

So in short you need to sign up for a contract with BT and get their lowest price option for calls. If you sign up as an 18 month contract you can get the £125 installation fee waived, also if the line has only been disconnected for 6 months or less then it should only be £25 to reconnect it.

Thanks for your reply - this seems ridiculous! I probably won't be in the flat for 18 months so I have really limited options. An 18 month contract with their cheapest service is the best part of £200.

May have to look into sky and if I need to get TV as well then I'm sure I could live with it.

Has the line been connected previously? If there is a line in the flat that has previously been connected, then you shouldn't need to shell out the £125 or whatever. I certainly didn't when setting up with BT for calls and Be for broadband.

It was - i've got a reconnection letter. That will still surely mean i would need to subscribe to a phone line before I can get the net through someone else?

That is the case yes, but it should mean that they don't charge you £125 for connection, reconnections are much cheaper - £25 or there about I think.
