Internet nostalgia

i remember using the wireplay dial up and getting a 99ms ping one day. I was an LPB !

CS_Docks !

Wow, the asuscom idsn card was the first thing i went to stoke for from overclockers.

Decent isp/server on a good night, 20 something pings. Quake 2 indeed.

Ahhh the late 90s <3 First time on the internet for me was 1998 at a friend's house. Got my own PC in 1999, wired up to a T1 connection in uni halls. It was all about Netscape, Hampsterdance, manga fanart sites, crappy Geocities/Angelfire sites, ASCII art, Sega Megadrive emulation and of course newsgroups :-)

Got back home to my parents in the summer of '99, out in the sticks. Went on dial-up 56gay for the first time. God I hated it!

Thankfully, NTL was just around the corner and data-rich sites like Youtube and Flash animations plus online gaming. The only thing I don't like about the internet these days is how social media seemed to have taken over everything. I'm still very much a forums person.

Dude, stop using Excite for searches, Altavista is so much better!

Forget Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator is heavens better. You know what, just spend few dollars on Netscape Communicator suite.

Don't forget to set up geocities account for your webpage.

:D

They said internet was forever, was here to stay, ten years later everything I had was gone. My email account on netscape.net was given away without a single warning to someone else with the same nick @aol when AOL bought Netscape, with all my bills and payment receipts still in it. I fought for three years, never got it back, received not a word of apology. Tens of my websites (it was a time when everyone shared some how-to's or step-by-step) sunk with the likes of angelfire and geocities (3.5 billion purchase, crashed and burned), not to mention dozen or so of ISPs that kept revolving on the market like doors to IKEA superstore on saturday afternoon. I would shed a tear, but I'm too busy wasting time with todays internet.

Talking of games, Warcraft I and II for me. Next game should have been Warcraft III in 1999, but Blizz kept putting off its release date, so I jumped ship to Age of Empires II which became my favourite game of all time!

I remember my first page on Angelfire, looked awful but it was mine. My nick back then was Mr Magix (hangs head).

Altavista, I remember that! ICQ was my chatting program and MSN was also pretty decent.

What was that other search engine called againot? Something spider or crawler.

Ahh Webcrawler, yes :-D

Talking of smilies, us veterans from the 1990s write smilies this way round :-) However, go on a site like deviantART and the young whippersnappers there write theirs the other way round like (: What's that all about?

:p

Other search engines - remember Dogpile and Ask Jeeves? They were fun to try if Excite, Yahoo etc couldn't find what you were after.

How could I forget... Zeroping instagib!

... And the forthcoming client side hit detection bots.
