There's a good chance that if you're opening loads of connections, the router will crash.

I second that. I ran around 10+ torrents and the router did indeed crash not once, but twice. Thanks for the information.

Doesnt matter what I try to download at the moment, it still disconnects, even downloading patches for games, it dies

Try connecting your modem/router to the BT master socket by taking off the faceplate and see if it still disconnects.
