Internet troll sentenced to 18 weeks in jail.

If you hurled abuse at a funeral or outside the grieving parents house you could be expected to be carted off by the police for public disorder offences, this is no different.

Has anyone protesting a funeral ever been given a custodial sentence?

Exactly the point I was going to make earlier, but tea was ready :)

Aspergers is no excuse for anything and no allowance should be made because of it. It simply explains why some people have certain thought processes, it doesn't excuse it.

The problem with the internet is that by its very nature it attracts people more likely to have this condition - it's very prevelent in 'geeks' because one of the side effects is obsessive interests in technical things etc (As a result many are intelligent or posses excellent ability in things like maths etc, at the detriment of things like social skills)- and then gives them a platform with which to inflict opinion on the world in a way never seen before.

Probably why it's only over the last 10 years have people begun to hear about it more and more.

ASS BURGERS

'The condition leaves the absence of theory of the mind, quintessentially the ability that makes us human.

'He just wasn't aware how horrible the effect was going to be on those who looked at what he had done.'

Absolute nonsense. To claim that Asperger's Syndrome removes any understanding of the emotional effect your actions will have on others is complete and utter tat. Especially when you've reached the age of 25 and appropriate coping mechanisms have formed. You may not particularly CARE about the effect, but you'll sure as hell understand what it is.

Just a pathetic, sad little man.

I don't know what's worse, someone loosing their liberties because they offended someone or what he said.
Some things should be handled by the law, I am not really sure if the law should govern what you say.

yeh but he has aspergers

I know a good few people who do genuinely have aspergers and some of them do have problems with what is appropriate socially, etc. i.e. one I know gets a right thing about certain hair cuts and will pester people for months to get it changed going to great lengths including writing them long letters, etc. but I don't know a single one who actually intentionally and purposefully go out to cause offence to people (they aren't aware they are potentially causing a problem) whereas in the case reported here hes obviously going out of his way to intentionally be offensive and while its something that should be looked at in more detail professionally with this case while some aspects of it sound like aspergers most of it sounds like a vile and sick person + aspergers.

People are getting the issue mixed up with free speech. It's not about that, it's about a person intentionally causing psychological harm and misery to already vulnerable and innocent human beings, unprovoked.

How would you feel if I repeatedly threatened your family by saying, "I'm going to stab you all in your sleep, I'm going to follow your children to school and kidnap them, lols"? They are just 'words', too.

The devil's advocate would point out the absurdity of depriving a person of their liberty simply for saying things others find offensive.

Theres a difference between a harsh truth, one mans evil being another mans good, and pure hate. This man wasn't speaking some unsaid truth or giving the other side of the debate, he was trying to be as offensive as possible for no reason at all.

I would call the police and get you arrested for conspiracy to abduct a child. It's completely different, if you were just calling me a thousand names under the sun then I would not care and I don't think the law should intervene.

If she is psychologically damaged then it should be put a civil case and he should be fined.
