in-tray or e-tray exercises are more common nowdays.
Basically they will simulate an office environment (imagine having outlook open on your screen) and you will be receiving a number of emails in relatively fast succession. The goal is to use the information in the emails in conjunction with other info they will give you beforehand (or will already exist in your outlook) in order to answer multiple-choice questions under each incoming email (e.g. Which response is the best one: a, b,c or d).
You will have to do that for a number of questions/emails within a given time period (e.g. 30mins). After that they sometimes have a second part where you are required to write a small report (think small essay, about 2 pages) where you will make a proposal or expand upon a bigger question, using the info you've got from the 1st part of the e-tray and your own creativity/imagination (it will usually be an open-ended question where you will need to propose/suggest something to your "manager").
search for e-tray and in-tray exercises on the internet, I believe there are a couple of tests you can try out.
