Introducing the brand new GeForce GTX TITAN Z

Hopefully this should illustrate the "point" of the card to those who keep missing it:

GTX780Ti
DP: 0.21 TFLOPS
Price: 470
£ per FT: 2238

Tesla K40
DP: 1.43 TFLOPS
Price: 4300
£ per FT: 3006

Titan-Z
DP: 2.7 TFLOPS
Price: 2400
£ per FT: 888.88

Now granted you could get three Titan Blacks for the same price and have 1.5x the performance, but if nobody was willing to pay a premium for a single slot solution then the 295X2/7990/690 wouldn't have shipped a single card.

If you want a purely gaming orientated solution just wait for GTX790 /shrug

Is dumb close enough? :p

Haha yeah that seems about right.

The only way to justify paying for this is if you're able to bill it back to someone else :p

For gaming your missing nothing, they would be a much better choice, or if you love green then just buy 3x Titan Black. The price is due to it's compute ability, if it were cheaper it would hurt the more expensive Tesla cards (it doesn't have all the features of a Tesla but has more than a non-Titan card).

This exactly. Nvidia have been getting hammered lately by people that would normally buy Tesla buying Titan. We have not sold a single Tesla since the Titan came out as most users using them for GPU compute do not need ECC (Except for analysis work/Fluid Dynamics/computational chemistry etc) Just wondering if I could get 8 of these working in one of our Tyan 8 way chassis now.. :D:D:D

:o

I can just imagine the sulking that will be going on in the members market down the road. Someone with more money then brains is going fork out £2400 for this then one will put it up in the MM and complain when folk start offering £700 for it.

The fact it's hit retail before the reviews have gone up tells you all you need to know about the performance of this card.

Okay guys, I think we get the idea that's is pretty expensive already. If someone wants to buy one (or more) then that's their decision to make, you have no right to insult said people over their own purchases.

Be sure to post some pics when yours arrives then

Nobody is being directly insulted here by the forum. The only insulting is Nvidia towards Nvidia fanboys expecting them to come up with £2400 for a video card, I suspect not even the most diehard fanboy will stomach this.

(Fire extinguisher on standby).

Some people behave like they have a macro along the lines of 'look at that price! Only an idiot would buy one'.

The way I see it (and I am sure others will disagree), is that Nvidia (and AMD) make a range of cards to suit everyones budget. So what does it matter that they make something like this? It doesn't take away from the 770/780/780ti's, etc.

Also, if I could afford one, I would be grateful to Nvidia for catering to such a niche market.

You are missing the point. It's not just about the price, but performance and value as well.

Cost 4 times the price of Titan Black and perform worse than 2...it's ridiculous no matter how to swing it. Titan Black itself is hardly a good value card (far from it actually), but comparing to Titan Z, even that looks like the deal of the century lol

if you were insanely rich then price is not a problem then guess id buy one or two just because. But i am not so all i can do is dream :)

Granted the cost/performance ratio isn't great.

Now - and this a genuine question - isn't it the case that the cost of development is split between the cost of the cards you sell? In that case, isn't volume of sales one of the most important factors when considering price?

If I have got that right, then wouldn't the price of the Z be much higher owing to the fact that they expect to sell a lot less than their other cards?

I think you mean 'than' brains as opposed to.

But that's usually the case, those that don't have money to burn are going to offer the most they can and hopefully get one at discount price when newer cards come out.

Could we be seeing a whole new level of pricing for dual GPU cards? I remember the last time this happened and AMD followed the trend swiftly!

Judging by the fact that OcUK has sold a grand total of zero titan-z's*, I highly doubt it.

*From the time of the titan-z going on sale to now, none of the stock values have changed on the OcUK store page. Obviously this wont include pre-order sales, or system builds with titan-z's
