So i was playing a game earlier, the next thing i know i get a bluescreen and when the computer tries to reboot i get the invalid system disk error.

i put windows in the dvd drive and tried to repair but it kept asking for drivers for the device i wanted to repair, as my hard drives didnt appear in the list? so i clicked repair on the next screen anyway and rebooted.. some screen came up saying it could be a problem with a drive or usb device i had unplugged during use etc..

anyway i rebooted again, went to the boot menu by pressing esc and selected my raptor to boot from. This time i got to pick whether i wanted to go in safe mode, last safe settings that worked. or just boot from windows normally, tried that and didnt work just blank screen. Did last safe settings that worked and now im in windows

anybody know what all that was about?, problem is now i cant boot normally.. i have to go through the bloody boot menu each time by the looks of it.

Btw anybody know why when sometimes im using my computer, the hard drive can make a certain noise and everything seems to stop for a second or 2 on the screen and then go back to normal.. is that a virus or is it the hard drive beginning to fail?

Go to the drive manufacturors website and download any hard drive diagnostic tools, I'd give that a run as it sounds like the drive is on the way out. Backup your data too in the mean time!

I will do that and report back in a bit, hope the drive isnt dying it isnt that old.

No errors found at all, it said PASS and i did the extended scan.

Now im scanning my other bigger hard drive which has another hour and 18 mins to complete.

oh my.. this is not good

my bigger hard drive which is 320gb apparently has too many bad sectors detected by the program and it stopped scanning there

would that be the problem? if it is i cant understand how, i dont think i was running anything from that drive and its not even booting windows from it.

what can i do now?

Have you tried booting the PC with the 320Gb drive disconnected? The errors detected by the diags plus the symptoms you describe suggest that it's the second disk that's causing the problems.

I will give that a go, i was thinking myself..

cheers anyway though for the help

Btw it actually says "Disk boot failure" not invalid system disk, im so used to the latter from the past i guess i just came out with it.

Also, this is my backup drive i bought last year :( is there any way at all to get rid of the bad sectors?. I have a lot of video files on there
