ios6 puts Android to shame

Look, I think everyone was expecting a little more from iOS 6. There are plenty of features Apple didn’t add to the latest version of its mobile operating system. I could literally go on and on about how there aren’t automatic app updates in the background, or how you still can’t access Bluetooth or Wi-Fi from the Notification Center (although Bluetooth is now on the first page of settings making it a little easier), or how apps are still represented by static icons instead of some form of widgets. The fact is, however, that just from using iOS 6 since it was available for developers yesterday afternoon, the entire OS feels even more cohesive, more thought out, and much tighter than anything Android has delivered.

The gap has widened even further between iOS and Android, and iOS 6 truly makes Android feel like some high school science project on acid that takes place in TRON. Apple’s mobile OS is meticulously thought out, and almost every small feature we’ve been asking for has been added — even ones we didn’t ask for.

Pretty good write up. Dude definitely knows what he's talking about. :-|

Well, anyone who has ever accused BGR of being Apple fanboys have just had their point proven. :p

iOS 6 doesn't seem all that great, but it does add some useful stuff. It expands the depth of iOS reasonably well, but it's never going to try and emulate Android, they're heading in relatively different directions.

I like Gizmodo's writeup, which surprisingly pegs Android as better -

BGR really can go and get stuffed. That's some amazing fanboyism there. iOS6 will be great, but it is no better than Android, especially with JellyBean on the horizon.

The TRON styling is great anyway. Why does everything have to be skeuomorphic like iOS? At least ICS looks different.

Some of those "features" have been on Android since 1.6.

Since we're on the topic, anyone notice that the graph showing the build distributions was a bit skewed?

From the site:

Decline an incoming call with a pre-written text message letting the caller know you’ll message them in a few minutes - Android feature for ages
FaceTime over cellular - Android feature for ages
Lost mode for iOS devices - Android feature for ages
Custom vibration for alerts - Android feature for ages
Ability to use a song as an alarm - Android feature for ages

In fact, the way they are touting Video Calling over GSM and Ability to use Song as Alarm is just laughable

Yeah tbqh I think for all their hardware design, Apple's ui and user experience on iOS has been looking dated for a while now. With Gingerbread as the main rival it wasn't so noticeable, but with WP7 and ICS looking as good as they do, plus the skinnability and inherent gorgeousness of the flagships' AMOLED screens for menus (referring to the Lumia and Galaxy S2/3 phones for the AMOLED screens, among a few others), every time I use a friends iphone it just feels like I'm using a top end phone from 2 or 3 years ago.

When they add a quick Bluetooth or Wi-Fi toggle in their Notification Centre, I bet that's going to be revolutionary.

Not forgetting the ability to make voice calls from the contacts list, I wonder if Apple will sue Apple for coppying.

IOS 6 rules! There really is no better OS on this earth. Apple have great ideas and can just implement them so easily and make them easy to use as opposed to every other platform, which takes hours to setup and tweak in order to get a simple task to work, iphones just work out of the box, no faff required. Their ideas are sooooo good that every company copies them, especially Samsung and HTC with their android phones and therefore Apple has to sue them! HTC, Samsung and google have no ideas of their own, they just don't innovate like apple do!

IOS/apple FTW! :)

To be honest, that article is just fishing for hits. BGR aren't that stupid, they've done it on purpose.

With the number of people who've moved to other tech news sources as a result of this post, I wouldn't be surprised if it hurts them more than it's helped in the long run.

Yup most likely this!

Also I think the journalists get more money for every view and comment that is submitted.

Well that is how it works on neowin anyway :p

So really all the angry people posting a comment are actually doing that website/journalist a huge favour!

Although it isn't a good move for the long run of things! :)
