I will start an OP that is not just haha, hope this pleases Rilot who will let this stay open.

Now I am not an Apple lover (my two nexus devices prove that) however after certain keynotes I think, damn that is pretty cool. This time.......not so much.

I was shocked to find that you had to manually update apps, what was that about. Bing search with Siri, way to stick it to Google and your users at the same time.

It looks different but it is still a row of icons with next to zero customisability.

Colour me disappointed.

It feels to me like a bit of a kneejerk reaction to all the commentary suggesting that iOS was dated visually and in terms of functionality.

Visually it has improved a bit, and some parts are lovely... but it also feels very in-your-face and lacking the elegance of previous Apple products. Functionally it now measures up better to the competition which is good.

It does have some nice new features and I do like the look new look.
But not enough for me to stay personally.
I wanted two things.
True multitasking on ipad, side by side apps.
Widgets/live tile approach to UI.

And also would have liked some sort of file system even if realy basic, trying to download attachments from email or links is a nightmare.

Wanted a gpx file to import into OS mapfinder app last night.

I had to go on my laptop download the file, attach it to email and send to myself.
Over the two years I've had the ipad now,It's things like this which are ***** me off and the more I use it the more frustrated I get as a tablet is such a great form factor, it's just the more you try and do, the more restrictive I find it.

Also ashame still no dual user setup. If other people use my ipad I'm uncomftablness with them having access to everything, especially as so many things are auto logged in. It needs some sort of guess account as minimum.

Looks better then before but it's essentially a new respray and touch up of a 10 year old car. It still does the job but there's newer and more powerful cars that can do the same job better.

I really like it, and I think they've done quite a lot in one go (and rightly so).

Will it convert the Android lovers? No, and it was never really going to, as Apple aren't going to go and offer that level of customisation.

I think they've poached from Android or the Jailbreak scene the most important features to your average user, power toggles and so forth. Add that to the already excellent cloud integration and top notch app store, and it's certainly enough for me to hold on to my iPhone 5 until the next 'wave' of phones.

Overall though, I think they're on to a winner. Especially from a 'your average person' point of view, I can see the general public loving this.

Here's a link: http://www.apple.com/ios/ios7/

I think it interesting.

They are blending the information flow and control of android into iOS. This allows their older users a chance to learn how to get used to managing what is now effectively a computer. At the same time they haven't alienated them with a wholesale ui change.

I would expect a huge ui change at some point in the next 2 years which moves away from the apps in a square design into something more like a desktop with widgets.

It is a difficult path to tread and certainly not at all revolutionary but apple look like they might be doing a good job of implementing change whilst maintaining a very diverse customer base.

I doubt apple will innovate in this area again. They will polish and add features from other systems whilst looking at other markets to develop

I'm not an Apple user (used to be) and neither am I anti-Apple; I think Apple's hardware design is top notch and the quality of their software from a usability point of view is great.

However, I don't think much to the iOS7 sample images that have been released and I'm shocked because Sir Jonny Ive was heading up the re-design. I can imagine this being a massive shock to iPhone users who haven't known anything different since 2007.

I've seen a good point made about this update. Not once have Apple shown it on a black device. Guessing they don't like how the dark colour frames it.

I found the most illuminating thing about the iOS presentation was how many features were missing from iOS6 that I took for granted with Android :p

More seriously though I think one of the challenges they are going to face is how they counter the platform-agnostic direction being pushed by Google and others given their traditional reliance on a closed ecosystem.

i.e the new notification sync between Mavericks and iOS is fancy but you need the whole Apple ecosystem for it to work - contrast that to, say, the Hangouts set-up where you can access the functionality through any old browser, use Chrome to make it an 'app' so you aren't limited to any platform. Likewise with Google Music etc etc. Apple on the other choose not to even bother releasing Safari 6 on the Windows platform. :p

That said, it looks like they are at least exploring that shift with iWork in the Cloud, but how about pushing the envelope and having something like iTunes entirely in the cloud to compete with Google Music and similar.

First time I've looked at something created by Apple and been genuinely impressed. for someone who generally views Apple as overpriced equipment for technophobes that's saying quite a bit.

Really impressed with the changes. What's for certain is that more people will be enjoying ios7 than the latest stock android, which is a shame. Android simply doesn't have the clout to be on as many devices (taking latest stock version here as gingerbread was awful) compared to android. As a galaxy s3 user, I had to root and stick in android 4.2.2 Aosp to get close to what google wanted me to experience and apple also to benefit of hardware and software together.

What's this, the Android forum doesn't like a new version of iOS? Well consider me shocked to my very core! :D

The features are long over due, however really not a fan of the new IOS styling. So many rainbow colours and gradients... :S

Was expecting something much more sleek uniformed and industrial feeling from Ives. I think the horrendous looking new icon designs perhaps makes it look worse then it is.

Shame the release isn't until September/October time, unless you are a dev or download from a naughty site.

It seems you still need your UDID registered either way, so downloading from an external site won't get you any further than getting iOS installed.
