iOS7

Keyboard looks a lot nicer, hope it's a bit more functional than the current though. One better would be to allow replacements but you can't have everything in life. From a network POV I just hope it's a simple change or day 1 of iOS7 will be forever the day of "where has my X gone" and "why does this menu appear from the bottom?".

Love that "we will roll this out to iphone 4"
has quickly become
"we will roll this out to iphone 4 with half of the fancy animations and stuff disabled so it actually works"
So more like IOs6.5 unless you buy a new phone, typical apple

Also i wouldn't be keen on what all that white is going to do to your battery life, looks poor on a black phone too

And they still try to palm off features that have been requested for years as some kinda new innovation

lolapple

As much as I don't like apple and iOS, iOS 7 actually looks pretty decent to me, yes pretty much everything has been on android etc. for years now but at least it is better than what they have done previously, which is nothing except an extra row of icons :p

Of course they aren't going to just throw everything on the iphone 4 as the hardware is old now and so wouldn't be capable of running it perfectly well and of course they won't give the older iphones every new feature/change, even if they were capable of running it as they want to force current iphone 4/4s customers to upgrade to the iphone 5, every company does this unfortunately, just another form of marketing :(

The thing is, at least they are not leaving the phone out completely unlike every single android phone that only gets 1-2 major android updates and even then, it takes forever for them to be updated unless you have a nexus device.

What version of android is the desire, nexus one, nexus s, galaxy s 1 and about 100 other android phones stuck on??? How do those phones run these days?

As for whites and battery life, it will make zero difference if it were black, iphones have LCD based displays so white uses just as much power as what black would, if it had been AMOLED based screens then yes battery life would have been impacted.

So far they haven't been too bad regarding that last point, however, I am sure once more ads/marketing stuff comes out then they will make it out like they were the ones who came up with this stuff :o

I thought that would bother me when I switched from Android a couple of years ago but it was outweighed by other things like not seeing the "Force Close" popup 3-4 times a day :D

That could have just been my device though lol

That's the reason that I moved from apple after over 4years of apple only phones. I still don't get on with the os though. They do look cool and work well, but only if you're used to the apple way. I'm not and so I find it very frustrating to use rather than instinctive.

Sd card and file system is too big a thing for me, it really is a deal breaker for me,.

The iPhone 4 was released in June 2010. That's nearly three years ago.

How many three year old Android devices are still seeing official OS updates?

can i download ios7 and try it on my ipad ?

iOS7 beta isn't available for iPad yet. Even when it is, you would need to be a registered iOS developer to get it legally.

I'm now really liking iOS7 after watching some of the videos. Seeing it in motion seems to make a lot of the design decisions make sense in a way that static pictures can't convey. It looks to be a very cohesive design.

It shows what a marvellous job they've done if even you like it (a bit :p)! Things like the design and colour scheme will always tend to divide opinion though, if it stayed the same people would have slated it, if you change it, there are people who won't like the change, etc.

I've been fiddling with it all morning and I do really like it, it's fluid and seems to work nicely. For a Beta 1 it's surprisingly bug free though there's the odd glitch here and there.

Few pics of it on the black phone if you're interested:

I suppose the point i was making that it doesn't happen on Android, Phones do tend to get left behind, but that can be better than forcing an update to a device that isn't capable of running it, rooting and custom roms give you the option in most cases

Apple are stuck between a rock and a hard place, They either cut off the IP4 and leave in on IOs6 and face the backlash, or they give it 7 and get a backlash when it runs poorly or with cut down features

Either way i think apple are clever in how they spread IOs over devices, sure it may say IOs7 on your Iphone 4 , but it will be far from the same experience or same features than on the IP5.

In android 4.2 is 4.2 no matter what

Anyway I had to rock the boat, too much Apple love for a post in the mobile section here :D

Yeah that is my only "main" dislike of it so far :( They could have done a much better job with the design/colour scheme imo. I also honestly think that widgets or some live tile thing could have really made this even better.

In all honesty, if those things were a lot better, I think I would have been pretty tempted...... :o

Those photos look great

Now.... I will be very impressed if apple can make the next iphone a lot nicer in terms of reducing that bottom and top bezel! :p

That a sena pouch/case?

Cheers Robbo, reminds me so much of MIUI on Android.

Yep, me too actually.

They could still change some of the things yet, some of the icons are a bit, well... questionable... :p

Yes it's the Sena Ultraslim pouch!

Yes they are rather nice, can't fault them. It was only £30 as well so not too expensive for a decent bit of leather.

For reference the Nexus S finished the update cycle on android 4.1.2. That's 2.3>4.0>4.1 compare this to the galaxy s and htc desire which are stuck on poor gingerbread. Really think OEMs are the cause and the solution to google's problem ( much like the saying with alcohol and life's problems).

Nexus devices are woefully underspecced (camera et al) to become popular and don't have the clout the galaxy range has. The samung devices are the most popular but not aethetically pleasing and contains too much bloat. The htc devices are the nicest looking but they always mess it up ( camera and not having the latest version quickly). The Motorola devices don't have enough flagships at present. Sony devices don't seem to be too bad but they don't update it enough. Then you get the oppo devices whose customers are beta testers.

Apple now have overall a superior package with the OS, hardware and ecosystem. Only thing missing is the share feature on android devices, and the ability to drag and drop files via USB from any computer as well as ability to install custom OS and make app defaults.

Yup, the OEMs all suck, 6+ months for minor android updates is a joke and unfortunately things won't change unless google can somehow force them to be quicker i.e. stop them from using android unless they can prove to be quick and release updates to a satisfactory standard

or

with KLP make it so that the base of android can roll out to every android phone regardless of skins etc. so no need for Samsung, networks to tweak it and test it, it just rolls out and then the companies/networks can release a separate update for their stuff in 6 months time. But that is highly unlikely since they have to test the skins etc. together with the new android version to make sure there are no issues etc.

The nexus 4 is an excellent phone and I would have had one by now if it weren't for the average camera :(

Yes they are rather nice, can't fault them. It was only £30 as well so not too expensive for a decent bit of leather.

Hmm £30 is pretty expensive for a small pouch imo! Especially if I end up not using it! :p :o

Might see if I can get one to review :p

I think it looks amazing.

What I am starting to get genuinely tired of though is the constant bickering between fans of either side, I read the verge a lot and the comments sections are really are a very sorry reflection on the people using them.

I speak as a person who's had every iPhone since the first one, a truckload of android phones (currently an S4) and a bunch of other phones inbetween, they all have pluses and minuses but saying "this is windows 8 for iPhone" or "they copied webos" makes about as much sense as people saying android copied ios with swipe gestures to unlock phones etc. There are only so many ways in which you can interact with a glass rectangle!

There are things you have to accept about Apple, they love proprietary hardware, they love locking down an ecosystem and they love having everything under tight control to manage the experience often at the detriment of some functionality at the edges and the ability to customise things. That can obviously be a bad thing, it's handy for example for me to be able to pull the battery on my S4 if it freezes, I like having expandable memory etc, but then on the flip side more than once I've customised android phones to the point where they don't work any more.

I thikn for the situation they were in as the leading mobile OS in the world (yes yes I know android has a larger market share but it's split over more versions and with so many skins I would argue a large amount of android users don't even know they have android, my mum for example!) they had to tread a very fine line between refreshing and updating their OS and not having people like my GF freak out and leave when the phone they've had for years (yes she's changed from a 3GS to a 4S to a 5 but its basically the same thing just with updated internals) changes radically overnight.

Well done Apple, well done android.. everyone calm down.

Lip stick on a pig

The GUI reminds me of a Fisher Price toy

You especially, great example.. you sound like the sort of person who might stand on a roundabout and shout at cars, when you put your opinion like that you get the fact that anyone with half a brain just ignores you?

that is all!

Actually.......... :p

Don't know about the iphones but with android phones where you can't pull the battery, you generally just have to hold down power for 5-10 seconds and it forces a reboot, and I think with some phones like the HTC phones when the phone hangs/freezes, it will do it automatically for you (at least that happened with my S)

But yes, spot on with everything there!

I try to avoid the comments section as much as possible these days for everything, it is just awful, hate and fanboy comments everywhere!

I don't get it, it's not like anyone has a gun to their head to pick a side and its also not as if buying an iphone or a samsung immediately gets you shares in either company so why be so passionate about what you've chosen.. I might go troll the next person I see buying cheese and onion crisps.. SALT AND VINEGAR ARE MUCH BETTER CHEESE AND ONION ARE LAME etc.. it is exactly and entirely interchangeable with the sort of moron that gets so wound up about a smartphone OS.

And yeah I get the point about phones without removable batteries, you can do a hard reboot thing with an iPhone too by doing a certain combination of button presses but as I've found to my cost with that sort of thing, if you brick it, you really brick it.. there's something satisfying about being able to have the final word on whether a device is on or off :)

Anyway, all I can say is I'm right in the middle of the industry and plenty of people are getting very excited about iOS 7, I do wonder about the amount of comment generated on this sort of thing, just like the amount of stuff you read about people hating massive screens or being bored with iOS etc etc..

Must be right, nobody's buying any of it obviously :p
