i have been banned from 6 servers on quake 3 for suspected cheating??? wtf... what would this of banned, my pcs ip? internet ip ? i dont have a cd key so isnt that cd key they have banned.

Now is there any way to change my ip address with virign media , ive already tryed the

run > config/ip > config/new in the command window but after a reboot i was still banned

This is something you'd have to take up with virgin media, You can request a new IP address from them via technical support ( I'd have thought. )

If you're using a router, You can change the mac address it uses to request DHCP info and this should give you a new IP (Used to do this from my SOF2 days :)). Either that or connect through a proxy.

when it comes to the net i have no understnading at all with ips / connection settings ect.. i dont have a router... but may be able to get hold of a netgear router if thats any good, as i can just connect my modem to this then a cable from the net gear into my pc?

what / how does proxy work ? - ill look it up though but might not understand the full on technical terms

Download a MAC Address changer. Turn the modem off, change your mac address, perhaps restart your computer for changes to fully take effect (I'm not sure if this step is necessary), and then once it's restarted turn your modem back on and you should be assigned a new IP.

The op doesn't deserve help because of the above bolded.

I doubt VM will do anything about it.

I've had the same IP since joining almost 2 years ago. Even after upgrading from 20Mb to 50Mb with a brand new modem I still have the same IP address.

The above will work too if you don't have a router. Happy cheatin.... I mean gaming! :p

You can do the command were you drop you config I think its IP renew all or something. They turn off you modem for say 12 hours or so. Perhaps when you sleep at night. If you do this your actually IP might be assigned to someone else and you will get a new one since your goes back into a pool of availible IPs. Although with Virgin they do seem to be rather static.

the mac ip changer only works when im connected to the net?when i unplug the moden and try to change it , it wont let me.

Im using version v5 r3

since installing it do i need to change any settings? all i have done so far is click renew ip

Once you changed your mac address, you need to reboot the modem (Take out power for few minutes and put it back). It should detect the mac address change from is dhcp pool and assign you a new one, unless you purchased a static IP. Then you're stuck using a proxy.

Do you have a router? Or just a modem?

If you have a router, you will need to change the WAN Mac Address of the router, then reboot both modem and router and you WILL have a new IP
