I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for my boot problem.
I've got a brand new PC, two samsung hard drives, Abit IP35 pro board.

Ive created the raid array (raid0).
Im now currently trying to boot off of one of the SATA dvd drives.

I've already set SATA-CDROM as primary boot device but it just wont boot from the disk drive.

It checks twice for:

'Boot From AHCI CD-Rom:'

but then fails.

anyone have any suggestions?

I found this on another forum, does anyone know anything about this? I cannot see any optical option, ive tried a few:

To boot to the optical drive on my IP35 Pro when in RAID/AHCI mode, I had to select a special boot option to boot to the optical drive, not just CDROM, keep hitting page down, you'll know it when you see it. (I would have to reboot to check exactly what it says, which I cannot do right now.)

All sata control types are set to raid in bios.
When in IDE mode it removes the dvdrom name from the boot device, but when in AHCI or RAID it lists it.
If i select its name it still doesnt boot off a genuine windows disk :(

Sata1: samsung F1 500gb
Sata2: samsung F1 500gb
Sata3: Sony (maybe?) DVD Rom
Sata4: Sony DVD Rom

If i set the raid settings for SATA devices, I can select these drives to boot from in the boot menu (after a reboot), but it just wont boot from it.

Im about to plug in an IDE dvd rom drive, but its not the answer to my problem :(

no :(

and fyi:
integrated peripherals->onboard sata device-> Sata Mode= Raid
" " -> onboard PCI device->controller mode=raid

Set Onboard PCI Device to IDE. That's for the JMicron device (IDE and e-SATA).

Dunno if it'll make any difference tho.

yes ive tried with one, tried with a single IDE also. It finds the IDE drive, allows me to select that as first boot device, but yet will not boot of it.

I must admit the bios flashes far too fast for me to look :(
the board was purchased yesterday.

sounds odd, but yes, 99.9%.
Its an original Vista DVD.

the only thing i could try is to borrow an XP disk as an alternative, but im stumped.

i've tried another go with my ide, disconnected the other two rom drivers and its managed to boot off it... result!!

so long as the rom drives are ok in windows thats an ok result, if not a very strange one.

thanks for all your input cob, its greatly appreciated :)

I've plugged the two sata dvd rom drivers back in (now windows is all setup), it shows the two rom drives in windows but wont read any info from them?

does anyone have any suggestions?

Cob,
the dvdrom drives works fine in another PC, but not in this new one.
It all shows up in windows, post screen, intel post screen, but wont read a disk.

All the drivers seem to be ok for it, doesnt show any problems.
Do you have an ideas?

It might have been covered but I can't see it. Doesn't the IP35 Pro automatically add the exact name of the DVD Drive to the boot priority list? Tried looking for that rather than trying to boot from "SATA CD-ROM" ?

Tbh no. I was hoping that Buff would have been along to share his vast Abit knowledge.

Have you posted on the Abit forums? Buff and the other members there are usually able to offer some good advice, and hopefully someone will have used the same drives as you (I use a Samsung SATA DVD drive myself).
