So far its looking like having:

Apple A5 CPU with Cortex A9 Dual Core
SGX543 GPU for 1 Billion pixel fill rate
2048x1536 Hi Res display, They have found ipad pixel doubled icons for iBooks.
upto 128Gb storage
Large Speaker
Thinner design with a flat back
Dual cameras

and heres what it could look like:


The hi res screen is the only doubt in my mind due to manufacturing and cost issues but more evidence is mounting by the day.

If Apple can pull that off then they will have the most amazing tablet and I will be at the front of the queue to get one. Would certainly be a futuristic experience.

What spec are you expecting?

I've always said the iPad screen needed a boost - double the resolution would be fantastic. Text and pictures already look great on it but with that sort of upgrade they would look amazing.

Personally I also think they'll get rid of wifi-only versions and maybe we'll see an SD card slot.

I'm getting a bit worried about the price though. I don't expect to see much change out of £500 for the base model.
 
I will eat my current iPad if the new one has a 2048x1536 display. Seriously I will.
I don't think anyone even makes a panel of that resolution yet in that size.
IPad2 will be a minor tech refresh with a faster, maybe dual-core cpu. 2 x the ram of the current one. Maybe a slightly fresher physical design but that's it. Nothing more.
We're not going to see a higher resolution screen no matter how much the industry press seem to think we are. It's just not economically viable.
 
It isn't going to be a flat back is it, I thought the rumours pointed towards a iPhone 3G type curved backing?

Hi Res screen yes, they cannot get a Retina type display for it and it seems weird that an SD card slot will be included, although it would make sense for easier transfer of photo's etc...

I wonder if they'll include 2 cameras? Personally I think just a front facing camera, why the hell would you wave your iPad around taking pictures.
 
they wont get rid of the wifi only, also that looks fake, the holes in the bottom just look ugly and i dont think apple would allow it, for some reason that 'ipad 2' looks fake, i duno what else they can call it just looks a bit weird
 
That looks like a rather cheap Chinese copy... look at the font of the clock! seems to be the generic font used on knockoffs :P

i agree with this. a 720p front facing camera for example would be nice

i always thought the ipads biggest mistake was no camera , its an ideal item for video calling/chat/facetime and it would have cost them nothing

I can assure you its lack of inclusion was no mistake. It will be the biggest reason people move from iPad I to iPad II though. On its own it will also open the second version of the iPad up to a bigger audience.
 
The first iPad was more of a test to see the markets reaction anyway, I think the iPad 2 will be more like what they wanted it to be.

As for the higher rez screen, they will only be able to pull it off if they seriously improve the graphics capability. Even the slight upgrade of the GPU might not do it, but with the GPU mentioned it can be extended into a multiple core GPU with the same drivers, and that would enable the higher rez and also push the graphics capability up in line with any A5 processor upgrade.

I think they almost definitely did it on purpose :p

A camera was always going to be the upgrade in the iPad 2 - if not, how would they get the original iPad users to upgrade :p
 
Camera is certain, always has been since facetime was announced.

Higher res screen would be nice, retina is just a buzzword like HD.

The ipad is noticeably slower than my iphone 4 so a jump up in spec would be great too. I probably won't buy it if it doesn't have a better display though.
