iPad 2

Definition of Retina screen + the calculations or it didn't happen.

That's a 16:10 resolution for a start :p

Awesome. The only thing I use my MacBook for is browsing, using iTunes and checking mail. I should be getting a couple of hundred quid for Christmas so if these things are supposedly coming out around Valentines day then I should have saved enough on top of the Christmas money to be able to afford one. I wanted one the first time around but at the time it wasn't really financially feasible.

:(

iPad 2 will have rear and front-facing cameras, say multiple sources

I still can't see when I would ever use a camera on a device this big...

"Takes iPad out of bag, holds it up with both hands, letting everyone see"
or
"Takes phone out of pocket, takes picture"

I dont know why but something just clicked in my head, mayb it will have one camera, but in the top of the ipad2 that you can role to face front or back ? Probably not though given its not very apple

It's not like the current one is slow....

It's not that's it's slow per se (although mine does slow down a fair bit at times with really choppy animation and slow touch response) but it's the fact the device runs out of RAM and reloads tabs in Safari very frequently. So much for 4.2 fixing this in anyway; it really is a lack of RAM that's the problem, not a bug in Safari.

Oh, I won't doubt the increase in RAM, I mean the iPhone 4 has 512 so it is logical for it to have 512 at least. But the other stuff I would be sceptical about.

iPad 2 needs more RAM. That's my onl beef with the 1st gen.

I, personally, don't need cameras and although a higher res screen would be nice it isn't essential for me...

I reckon mid 2011 despite this rumour.

I'd imagine if it has a camera on the back it'll be like the iPod Touch rather than the iPhone 4, essentially a FaceTime camera on both sides so you can show people stuff (hurr hurr) rather than it being for taking pictures per se.

The Register said:
Next year's iPad will have a front facing camera, a higher-resolution screen and lose a bit of weight too, Chinese sources have been telling Reuters.

Factories are already ramping up for production of the new iPad, with a view to an early 2011 launch, which would fit Apple's usual schedule of product releases. Reuters reckons the usual manufacturers are already gearing up and will start spitting out the new, improved, fondle slabs next year.

Retina displays have twice the number of horizonal pixels AND twice the vertical pixels.

Therefore it'd have to be much bigger than 1900x1200 to be classed as "Retina". I can't see that, rather just a bump.

If they don't increase the resolution I'll be disappointed, as it was one of the first things I noticed could be improved after using one. They will almost certainly put in 512 RAM (and no more) which is very much needed. I don't care about much else. I can take or leave the cameras, but a USB port would be great.

The biggest question is going to be whether I buy an iPad2 or pick up an old one for less money.

.

They'll probably do a resolution increase but that is needed far less than extra RAM.

As for a USB Port. No chance.

only other thing they could do is knock off the Apple added tax :)

Apple decrease prices? Good luck with that... :D

Hmm surely a resolution of 2560x1920 is what it'll need for retina on a 9.7 inch screen keeping to the 4:3 aspect ratio.

1920x1200 would be retina on a 7 inch tablet.

And I doubt we'll see either of these resolutions on the next iPad.
