Wife and daughter (6) want an ipad2.

Is it really worth paying the extra for the newer ipad or is the ipad2 good enough? Also, 16g is enough for apps and games and browsing? Might take it with us on hols for the daughter to watch the occasional film.

iPad 2, unless you really need the retina display? But the iPad 2 screen is really very good as it stands.

Yeah I went for a refurbed ipad2 instead of a new ipad3.
Cheaper from apple, next day delivery and a years warranty.

Went for the 32gb version so that it will hold more music and vids (also for holiday) as well as lots of games, because 16gb doesn't sound big enough once you start adding films.

But we wont be adding many films, maybe a couple.

Also, Apple refurb is not that much more than a brand new one?

Hi Koolpc,

I was in the Apple store looking at the 3s and they have a great screen. However there was a deal over at a competitor recently on their ebay store which had the 2 at £289.99 so i jumped at it. The difference really isn't THAT amazing and you'll still be impressed with the great screen quality of the 2. I'd say get the 2 and put the money difference towards something nice.

I was convinced if the 'new iPad' had a 'retina' screen I would sell the iPad 2 and get one. But after it finally did launch and I had a good hands on with one I decided to stick with the 2, the screen is awesome but I didn't feel as compelled as I thought I would to upgrade even though 90% of my iPad usage is reading.

For me the screen really does make a difference. Text looks so sharp making the experience far nicer with a lot less zooming in and out!

In what way is it worth the extra £70 please. Thanks

All those pixels crammed into one small space, it'll be a higher res than your TV and probably your monitor. But when you see iPad 2s for around £280 new/refurb, you think is it worth it? Personally if I was buying now I'd get the new iPad, but at the moment I do not feel the need to upgrade from the iPad 2, even though the screen is GORGEOUS!

The screen alone is worth it, but mainly if you do a lot of reading. Websites are far more easily readable, especially in portrait, plus books and PDFs are easier to read full-screen without reading or panning all the time.

The camera is far better but then that depends on how much you're likely to use it as not many people do with the iPad really.

If neither of the above bothers you then by all means save the £70. In the iPad2's favour, it's slightly thinner, lighter and the battery lasts a bit longer.

For me not owning either ipad 1 or 2 i think helped me decide. I was after a tablet for a long time but i have to say now ive seen the ipad 3 display and read text, news artcles, watch videos etc its just gorgeous to look at! If you have that extra 70 quid or what ever id go for the new one.

For wife and daughter....iPad 1!!!!!! (my daughter is 5)

Seriously, I sold my iPad 1 32Gb a few months ago. As I felt it started to feel slow and I thought I would still get a decent amount for it. The wife also used to bitch about all the websites that didn't work well (flash issues etc.)Bought the wife a Blackberry Playbook which she then didn't use claiming it was too small. I have since bought the Asus TF101 also.

So after a few months I've bought another iPad 1 for £85 less than I sold the old one for.

In the interim period the wife did say she missed it. This time I elected for the 16Gb 3G version. Useful to have 3G connectivity and we never used more than about 10-12Gb (a couple of albums and a few films).

If I wanted to buy new and future proof myself a bit more I'd probably just buy the iPad 3 for the bit extra.

I tried the New iPad in store head to head with the iPad2 - couldn't see any real difference in screen quality. There again I don't bother with HD on my HD TV and usually stick with SD as I can't see much difference there either.

I would love to see how many people really would notice the difference if they didn't know which model they were reviewing. What I would call the placebo effect.

Has anyone ever seriously thought of ditching their PC and to use an ipad exclusively? I have been thing about it lately.
