Was it a medieval cast iron spoon by any chance?

Seriously don't tell them this story, tell them something more beilevable that they will sympathise with and cross your fingers.

What people do not realise is that it was held by the baby and they dropped the baby first . . . .

As to the non believers, it can and does happen. You can see it has not been dropped, otherwise the casing would be damaged, and there is nothing at all there. The glass could already have had a stress point there, a flaw in the casting or float process etc.

It's glued on with the 2nd gen as well. That's why I said it was a horrible job

The only way the spoon gave your iPad that much damage is if it unleashed a full theatrical people's elbow.
