iPad or Netbook when travelling?

@ OP, depends if you have anything similar such as an iPhone/ipod touch, I mean I personally have a Blackberry so I was a bit keen on the ipad, all the goodness of the iphone but without having to text people with a touchpad.. ^-^

But alas, sense has gripped me and a netbook is perfectly suitable for the time being, maybe when iPads drop in price as the next model (With a whole 2 new features) comes out.

You will most likely get your iPad nicked if im being truthful with you.

Typing on the iPad might be a nightmare due to touchscreen. (not sure never used it)

ipad is a lot of money for very little I would say in relation to what you wish to use it for.

Netbook + SSD in my opinion.

The iPad is rather good, my dad has one. That being said, I really don't think I could recommend one over a netbook, especially at the insane price. If you do get an iPad, consider getting the keyboard, they really make it a lot nicer.

Netbook, it will do all you need and more, has a propper keyboard, USB, a big improvement on the tiny storage the ipad offers, runs flash, cost less than half the price plus it means you wont be inhaling the farts of Steve Jobs!

Stop the Press !!!

I have to go back on what i said earlier about getting a netbook as I got myself a Blackberry 8900 curve last night which has just made my Netbook redundant.
If it was me I'd take my BB & nowt else.

I saw someone using an ipad on the tube it looked hellish awkward to carry about and to put away, its a great gadget but only if you already have an computer/laptop. I feel it just doesn't cut it on its own, plus you actually need a computer of some sort to sync the actual thing!

I agree netbook. Ipad will get stollen and you will cry if you break it. I would feel ahppier breaking a £300 netbook as I would know and could fix it my self and not get bum raped by apple support.

I own an iPad and I'd recommend getting a netbook from what you've mentioned. The iPad excels in UI and specific areas of media usage over other devices, but it isn't a good all rounder. I think you'll end up getting frustrated over what it can't do most of the time.

I'd go for the cheaper and more appropiate option for your needs and get a netbook.

However did people manage before iPads were invented then?

(P.S. this is not an anti-Apple comment)

Indeed.
Upon your return or even better during your travels, please let me know where you access the masses of wifi you're going to need to actually make use of the device. As 3G work while aborad would be utterly insane.

I'll be interested to know which countries, and what wifi was available, and how much it cost. Just what is available to people travelling, this will be an interesting project.

Netbook - granted gadgets akin to the ipad are fun to mess around with but seriously, when you need things done you shouldn't be bothered with apple apps and the like. Conventional computers are simply much more versatile. Unless of course you make sure beforehand that the ipad can do everything you want in a decent enough capacity. Aesthetically speaking it quite obviously has the upper hand, however with it comes additional expense and risk of theft.

netbook as it's more virsitile than ipad, plus you can download free software such as O.o if wanting to work whilst on the move, whereas with Ipad apple will want more money for the apps.
reguarding moving about a netbook will have a smaller area than ipad and most can i suspect take more abuse than the ipad can.
