Yes various websites are reporting it but you seem to be missing the response from Apple and the email Job's sent.

I'm not missing it at all

What do you think the response would have been for other phones if there had been such a public outcry? Did they have recalls?

I'm by no means saying this is a good situation by the way, or trying to defend a poor design, but it appears from the early response that people will just have to either accept it, use a case or return the phone. Of course if it keeps escalating, then I don't see any other choice for Apple to recall the product.

Just trying to look at it a bit more openly, rather than the "down with Apple, off with his head" approach :)

This may change tomorrow though if I find I can't make any calls :D

Having done some testing on mine, I can post the following pic when running the speedtest app. The latest result being shown is with me holding the phone as shown in the pic (notice 1 bar and no 3G) and the one below with the phone sitting in the palm of my hand (not touching the sides). Normally have 4-5 bars and 3G. I think the results speak for themselves. Without a fix, its going back next week!

Wifi was switched off for that run.

For all of those of you who say you cant get it to do it try visiting a few locations several miles apart. i cant get it to do it while im at work, but at home (and another place i visited last night, it drops like a stone)

I just phoned applecare and have been told to do a load of resets, if that doesnt fix it, it is a carrier issue and not a problem with the phone. yeah right

The people who bought the iPhone4 yesterday are nothing more than beta testers for Apple.

If i spent that type of money on a phone and it had issues i would be going back and asking for a refund. Imagine queing for hours and then ending up with a faulty phone, hours of time lost and a big hole in the bank balance. How is that acceptable??

Anyone who suggests get a bumper to fix the issue has serious issues and are deluded and i cant help but notice a hint of fanboi'ism coming through!!!

Like i said before, if it was Sony, Samsung or MS, they would have been crucified by now!

Lets face it, Apple have screwed up.

I have tried this today in work and with my bumper off have managed to replicate the issue.

however it also happens on a 3Gs i have here at work also again with any form of case removed.

I have tried on Vodafone and O2 networks.

So if it happens as-well on a 3Gs how can it be an iPhone 4 issue ?

The signal just goes down to 1 or 2 bars for me I don't loose signal all together.

ADD the 3Gs is running OS4 i think i have one on 3.13 somewhere I can try.

Agreed and thats why its going back if it doesnt get fixed before 8th July. Obviously there is just a hint of fanboyism going on, everyone in the queue (waited 3 hours) had an iPhone (pre-4) in their hand before they got into the store!

I would have thought it would be a pretty basic design decision not to put the antennas in such a position where they may be bridged. It really doesn't matter what hand you use, nearly everyone will be touching a fairly large area of the edge of the phone.

EDIT: And as shown above, the majority of people are right-handed, so will be holding the iPhone in their left hand when browsing/using apps etc. Even making a phonecall anyone right-handed with chunkafied fingers [me! :(] may end up bridging the antennas.

If the hardware layout forced Apple to place the antennas there, why didn't they insulate one or both of them? [not complete of course otherwise it would be a rubbish antenna! :p].

In any case I think I will hold off and see how things develop. I still have a month left on my contract so I think I will save the 20 quid early upgrade fee! :)

Hmm if it is a hardware fault I don't see how they can fix it for launch day purchasers. Will hold off for now or look into HTC/Android options.

After the arrogance Job's displayed in his "hold it differently" response, mines going back on Monday.

I'll sit on my hands for a while and see how the situation pans out. If I'm handing over £500 for a phone, it's primary function should work without any flaws.

Poll has been added, you can choose multiple selections.

For myself, I've noticed the signal drop when I hold the phone and I bridge the aerials on the left and bottom.

My screen is perfect, no yellow discolouring or any other issue I can see.

Thanks :)

I have the antenna problem - however, where as I found it dropped down to "No Service" at my house (Where the reception is awful), I found at work it dropped down to two bars instead and I could still use it...
