Iphone 4 tarriff help

Bear in mind that as with anything 'unlimited', there are of course restrictions.

I believe that Tmobile's Fair Use Policy stipulates 1Gb of data (3Gb for Android phones).

Pay monthly plans which include internet on your phone
If you choose a Pay Monthly plan which includes internet on your phone, you’ll need internet coverage, check it at t-mobile.co.uk/streetcheck. Remember that you can only use internet on your phone in the UK and you can’t use your phone as a modem or use internet on your phone for peer to peer file sharing, instant messaging or making internet phone calls. *Internet on your phone comes with a fair use policy of 1GB a month. We’ll monitor how much you send and receive each calendar month so that we can protect our network for all our customers. If you use more than your fair use policy amount, we won’t charge you any more, but we may restrict how you can use your booster, depending on how often you go over your amount and by how much. If you remove your booster and then use internet on your phone you’ll automatically be charged our daily rate, see t-mobile.co.uk.

Pay monthly plans which include internet on your phone on an Android phone
You'll get internet on your phone Plus included if you join us on a pay monthly plan with an Android phone in a T-Mobile store, over the phone or via our website, t-mobile.co.uk. You'll need internet coverage, check it at t-mobile.co.uk/streetcheck. Remember that you can only use your internet on your phone Plus Booster in the UK and you can't use your phone as a modem or use Internet on your phone Plus for peer to peer file sharing, or making internet phone calls. *Internet on your phone Plus comes with a fair use policy of 3GB a month. We'll monitor how much you send and receive each calendar month so that we can protect our network for all our internet on your customers. If you use more than your fair use policy amount, we won't charge you any more, but we may restrict how you can use your plan, depending on how often you go over your amount and by how much. As your phone is always connected to the internet, if you remove your internet on your phone Plus Booster from your account you'll automatically be charged up to £1 every day. That £1 a day rate has its own fair use policy and other legal stuff, which you can see here: t-mobile.co.uk/services/uk/fairuse/#fup5.

About skype, t-mobile aren't really the ones to go for if skype is a main requirement. They block the ports for voice and video calling. You can get around it by setting up a static vpn but I don't think that'll be her forte :p

Did you not read this?

Also t-mobile's fair use is indeed 1GB but if you go over that there aren't any run on charges, just speed restrictions at peak times (4pm till midnight).

But I say again, if she wants to use skype out and about, she will NOT be able to on t-mobile.

You sure about blocking the ports?

Wouldnt people complain?

Well that just leaves 3 then or other tarriff.

I think it's quite common for providers to stipulate things like:

you can’t use your phone as a modem or use internet on your phone for peer to peer file sharing, instant messaging or making internet phone calls.

As taken from the link in my above post.

Don't people read the terms and conditions any more? :)

I'd choice whatever network gives me the best signal strength to be honest, no use having unlimited minutes, text and web if you can't get a signal. Most networks offers are pretty similar prices wise anyway, especially on iphones.

Also check out quidco and topcashback for some good offers. Most retailers/networks give over £100 cashback with iphone 4 contracts.

Without being rude, this is what I hate about iPhone users. They want one, but they don't know why, don't have any need for one, and have no idea about the alternatives. Oh well, that's powerful marketing for you.

Without being rude, this is what I hate about Android users. They assume that iPhones are only purchased by the fashion conscious or technically illiterate on a whim.

There are plenty of technically savvy iPhone users with no interest in fashion who are fully aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the alternatives, however because their requirements differ from yours you choose to dismiss their choice out of hand.

For me, after evaluating the alternatives, the iPhone 4 was the best device available and a purchase that I'm very happy with, however I would never consider trying to tell someone else what they do or do not require.

With regard to what tariff - I've recently switched to T-Mobile and pretty happy with them so far. I'd recommend googling the coverage checkers for both networks to make sure she gets decent reception at home/work.

I'm on tmobile and skype works fine here  been using daily since July

Meh, we've been told by store support that skype is blocked due to the sheer amount of traffic it would produce. We've had people come into our store complaining that they can't use it aswell.

I know the chat part works fine, ie instant messenger, but as far as I'm aware, t-mobile block the video and voice calling.

But if you can use it ok then carry on! :p

3 are a good network for Skype and IM support, works fine on my Android phone. Data speeds are great everywhere I've been.
I think they might even be exclusive of your normal Data cap, so you can use them without eating into your allowance.

The £35 a month plan is true All-you-Can-Eat Data with no limits or fair use gotchas. It explicitly includes tethering too.

Thanks for that, will look in to it.

The 'all you can eat' data, is truely unlimited? Or is it capped like most 'unlimited' services?

It's truly unlimited. I still wouldn't expect to get away with pulling down hundreds of GB a month, but it'll be miles better than any other mobile Data plan.
