Was going to post this a while back, but got distracted. Can't see anywhere to discuss these upcoming devices so time for a thread. :D

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last couple of months it looks like 10th of September is going to be the reveal for the next iterations of the iPhone. Rumours (of which there are many) seem to indicate there is going to be a premium and a cheaper version of their new devices announced simultaneously.

The 5S is rumoured to have... nay has:

8MP camera
TouchID fingerprint reader, slightly shallower home button expected.
New A7 processor 64 bit "desktop" architecture
16, 32, 64gb sizes
Available in space grey (aka graphite), white and "champagne" colours. New Graphite colour touted (pictured below).

The 5C is expected to be largely in line with the current iPhone 5, albeit with a plastic back more akin to the 3 series phones. It is expected to be available in many colours at launch too.

Specs from keynote (10th September 2013):

Same 8MP rear camera, hybrid IR filter, five-element lens

Made from hard-coated polycarbonate, with steel-reinforced inside. 4-inch retina, integrated touch later, widescreen video, full sRGB standard, A6 processor, same as iPhone 5. Slightly larger battery capacity.

New front-facing FaceTime camera, more LTE bands, dual-band Wi-Fi ABGN, Bluetooth 4.0

Starts at 16GB at $99 on 2 year contract, $199 for 32GB

Bit of a shameless Macrumours aggregation I admit, but hey it's a good source for such news. :D

I'm intrigued to see what the 5S is going to be like, but I'm not sure the price premium will be justifiable with the camera and the fingerprint reader alone. The 5C is appealing to me at the moment, coming from an iPhone 4 it would still make a worthy upgrade, and I'd actually be smidge happier with a phone I'm not terrified of carrying around naked (phone, not me) due to it's plastic back. That said, the 3G/S suffered from cracking problems after a while - I hope this isn't the case for the 5C.

Will also be interesting to see how they segregate the devices at a software level as well, will the 5C be totally gimped (no Siri, etc)? Again, not massively concerned myself because the 4 hasn't had a load of features the newer devices have had for a while and it hasn't detracted from my iOS/mobile experience.

Roll on the 10th. :)

Im interested in the 5C myself, wont upgrade this time round but perhaps the next 'C' variant next year.
I've lost count on how many times ive dropped my 5 and its always a scary moment! and don't really care about the aesthetics anymore, as long as it has a nice screen, its fast and has IOS, couldnt care less if it has a plastic back or metal/glass it only gets scratched

Might look at the 5c myself as my mums iphone4 is slowly dying so want to replace it with a newer iphone. But if its going to be pretty much the same as the 5 then i might end up getting her the 5 instead of the 5c or 5s.

I will be getting a white 5s, I have a 4s currently which will go to the other half and I'll sell her 4.

Looking forward to it :)

I'll buy one if the finger print reader works 99% of the time. Let's hope it can be used for authentication as well as unlocking.

This. If there is an API surrounding the fingerprint sensor that can be used by third-party apps it will be a big selling point to quite a few people I reckon.

Personally I've been looking forward to the 5S for a while to replace my aging 4S. Not really interested in the 5C that much.

Waiting for this, depending on the 5S features the 5 or 5s will be my first iphone :).

Going to buy the phone outright and shove a 1 month rolling SIM in it.

Using a mate's 4s until this next traunch come out. Wouldn't mind checking out the 5C but quite like the look of the champagne one tbh.

I think I read somewhere its expected the reader will just be used for unlocking initially, but as time goes on it'll be used for payment and store authorisation once 3rd parties get on board. Probably will present a law suit or two when Samsung release their version knowing Apple. :D

Interested to see what the phone will look like. Seeing as it's still a 5-series I guess the model won't actually change that much?

If its tided in with there iCloud keychain then that would be great, be very usefully to just log into all your apps and so on with your finger print. I will mean you need signal but that shouldn't matter since most services you have passwords for are online.

Also if they do include a finger print reader I hope it isn't any sort of swiping version, those all just suck.

Will probably skip a 5S being a current 5 owner, unless the upgrade is major which I doubt. A 5C would be interesting though as a possible Xmas present for the GF to replace her aging 4.

I won't be surprised if the 5C uses a lower quality screen compared to the flagship.

Same high res but not as colourful/wide viewing angles. Like the iPod touch.

Enough 5C's 4ya?

More interested in next iPad which I have been awaiting for some time.

This.

I have a 4S and was totally underwhelmed by the 5, seeing no point in upgrading so I doubt I'll see any real reason to fork out for the 5S either. I don't want a larger phone or larger screen and actually prefer the design of the 4S so I think I'll be staying on SIM only and saving a packet and instead upgrading my iPad a little later in the year :)
