*** iPhone 5S/5C - September 10th ***

I finally had a go with the 5s today and I'm sad to say that I wasn't impressed. My 4s feels just as fast on ios7, and I don't like the feel of the home button now. It's a beautiful phone however, but I will see what the 6 brings. I can't warrant the 5s as a upgrade for me.

I ordered on Tuesday and still awaiting shipment. No rush whatsoever for me, as long as it isn't something stupid like November when I get it.

Just want to check something. The iPhones bought from Apple don't lock to the first network they connect to, do they?

If not - how come the SIM free ones do from places like Carphone Warehouse? I could understand if there was some agreement between them and Apple, which resulted in a reduced price.. but there isnt!?

The Apple ones don't lock no. And the CPW ones do, just because that's the deal that was arranged between CPW and Apple.

That's correct, it basically an unlocked phone.

They aren't really SIM free, they are phones sold to a network and thus lock to the first network they are used on.

I believe its controlled through Apple's servers and only networks can unlock your phone if they allow it. The reason why though is obvious, if you buy a phone from the network and put their SIM in, you are either stuck with them or have to pay them to have it unlocked.

You do realise I'm going to sit here and gawp at this all evening now don't you?

Where's the destination btw? Amsterdam, or London direct? For some reason I have it in my head that Amsterdam is a UPS hub...

And that's going to take until Wednesday?! Damn it they need to push the throttle to 100% :p I want my iPhone :p

Well when they get in Germany, it will take a few hours to get on a plane and be on its way to the UK. Then it will take a few hours to unload the crates and split them up ready to go to regional hubs. Then from there split up for the final delivery, which will be around Tuesday. Then they get delivered on Wednesday.

Spoiler alert! Jeez... :p

I don't understand what the fuss is about. Was walking past the Apple Reading store last Thursday and went in to check if they had any in stock .. Walked out with 2 16gb ones for the Mrs and myself.

Having played around with the ones in store I don't think it is much of an upgrade to the 5 so will prob return them next week (lucky I still havent opened them yet!)
