Did anyone watch the launch, first time I've ever bothered to even part listen to one of these things. OMG, it was stomach churning awful. The sycophantic whooping and clapping. I really felt embarrassed to own Apple kit.

I own a lot of apple kit but the wooping and cheering is just pathetic... Really embarrassing and when I present at a conference I don't get a woop or a cheer! :(

Similar battery life to the older model
Lower specs than equivalent phones
Higher prices

Dunno what I was expecting really, iPhones seem to get less impressive every generation, is this because Apple have lowered their game or because everyone else has raised it?

These iPhones are exactly what everyone should have been expecting.

These days you can't sneak out new tech under the radar, it isn't possible. The Samsung/Sony/HTC phones are the same - people complaining about the size of the upgrade.

What we've got here are two top of the range phones spec wise, I don't want an Android phone as I find the software inferior, but I do want a bigger screen, so it's ideal.

This is really for people who want a bigger screen or more space, and the calls for a bigger screen have been huge.

New apple phones are just an embarrassment. Low res screen on a smaller version. Terrible design. No other designs available. I hope the new phone will follow previous versions to make use of godawful rubber cases that completely hide it's features except for the front panel.

Just a heads up, and this goes for your other posts and post in the watch thread - you've already been warned about trolling. Keep it constructive.

Keep what you have then ;)

You don't actually have to spend money or have the latest phone...

My 4s is in it's death roll or I would agree with you. Only the increase volume button works, even the mute slider doesn't work now so I can only have silent ring, flash doesn't work either. Even the 5/s is bigger than I want really.

I just wish they would bring out a functional phone for the rest of us. As I say just whack a better battery in a 4s with higher storage options and a 2 or 3 year old chip.

I don't mind the restrictive OS, I don't do much with the phone anyway but I think I'm getting pushed by them down the android route as they don't make anything for me anymore.

Very good. This phone is for you. Because overwhelmingly almost everyone else finds Apple software inferior.

Source?

I think this is the first time that Apple have "buckled" under consumer pressure for a bigger screen (ignoring the small increase in the 5/5S which had little impact on the actual phone dimensions).

Is anybody disappointed? I was looking forward to getting a couple of these at launch to replace my Note 3, looks like it doesn't add anything on top of what the Note 3 already does?! Where is the innovation?

You'd have no problem with the size of the 5s. Unless your hands are abnormally small.

I don't think there's a decent Android phone that's the same size as the 4s anyway.

What would you have wanted that it doesn't have? You've got to really want iOS for it to be worth it.

You can't innovate year on year... The phone market is stagnant and has been for a while, with the only usable additions or "upgrades" being NFC and the range of payment methods. Ultimately, we have everything we want form a phone, which is why they have tried to innovate in the smart watch department.

It'll cost a lot. Fact is I was expecting the 32GB to be £600, so in my eyes i'm paying £20 more than expected for double the capacity. If anything i'm pleasantly surprised.

I'm certainly no idiot, although I do tend to steer towards Apple products, Macbook etc. I wouldn't call myself a die hard though, I wouldn't wear the Apple watch if it was free.

You're paying £20 more for 16GB actually since £619 is the base price. The 64GB one is £699.

My wife has the 5s and it's still bigger than I would like. I have put my phone against the SG4 mini and it's not that different, I could live with that. Still slightly bigger than I would like but then it's half the cost. Again I don't care about top end, my 4s doesn't struggle with anything I do.

It's not just the small hands, I'm working around aircraft for half my life and a big phone is so restrictive in the pocket. So many of my colleagues have shattered screens from the things not fitting in pockets.

Now a larger ipad, i'm all over that ;)

Very nice looking phones. Look much more premium than the majority of Android handsets, of course the price reflects that.

Flexibility of Android wins for me, I just wish the handset makers could match the build quality of Apple.

Agree. Good night sleep and today the picture looks clearer. This launch should have had at least one phone offer for those of us that do not want ping pong rackets in our pockets. Sports features for a phone that's too big to cary on daily run. They also alienated entire market sector of women and young people, professions and uniformed people that use belt holders etc etc in the process. All this gen needs now to do dent in share price is for Apple Pay to be mislaunched outside of US as badly as Siri was (we waited for full set of features for a year behind US) or worse yet - for it to be priced so bad for merchant that the adoption is limited and/or google pay to undercut it in months to come.

I still can't believe Apple Watch was launched on the back of "it's a freakishly oversized ipod nano you can draw penises on with your class mates", and regardless of the future of wearables, this generation is definitely one to skip - just too thick, too bulky and too disjointed effort. The fact battery life is not mentioned anywhere is very strange too.

Ultimately the 6 will sell, because 4/4S market needs an upgrade and those of us who invested in apple apps (I have few hundreds sunk in GPS soft) simply can't go to anywhere else. 6 Plus will be the new "brick" laughing stock few years down the line. Although I have to say - if google offered "app matching service" - giving away the same apps you had on iphone for android for free as a convincer - I think with this generation of phones Apple would have very hard time keeping the doors shut. But then with android we are talking about OS that still doesn't have unread sms/mail/unanswered calls in dock as part of its standard API...

Yesterday I thought the 6+ was too big, but the more I see it, the more I'm tempted...

Will the 2GB make a huge amount of difference do people think?

I know what you mean. It looks far too big, but when you get the calipers out and measure against the iPhone 5s, i'm not too sure. I think i'll make a template.
