They maybe a business but it just seems totally unfair. A 16GB fablet with near 6Gb used up as OS storage will leave very little room for anything. Yeah they are apple and can do this because people will buy it but what is the actual point in the 16gb version. Why not release the 32gb version at a higher price than the current 16gb.
There is a difference between business and actually making a product fit for purpose. If you read my post again I said why didn't they just release the 32gb model as the lowest and upped the price.

You'll probably find that there is less space than the advertised limit due to the actual usable space being lower (due to 1024 bytes - 1MB).

13.70 GB of space on the 16 GB model
28.00 GB of space on the 32 GB model
57.20 GB of space on the 64 GB model
So really world, you'd be looking at about 12GB of useable storage once you're up and running.

I sense the real drama here is that you (like others) wanted the 32 GB version - there isn't one and so you can't get what you want.
That doesn't make the 16 GB version not fit for purpose. There isn't much space on it but if you're more cloud based I'm sure it is fine. It means it doesn't work for you and you don't want to fork out the £20 extra for a 64 GB version.
I think their storage options make perfect sense, in a world where we need more and more storage on our phones - more, bigger videos, bigger images etc. 16 GB gets you on the ladder - cheap entry and allows Apple to market the iPhone at a lower starting price. Other versions give access to two levels of storage, including 128 GB which people have requested for a while.
When did you order?
I'd guess about 11/12 GB. My iPad did say 12.2GB before iOS8 update, but now it's gone down to 11.7GB.
But may be different on the phone as it has different features obviously

Well, I'm rather annoyed at Vodafone now, ordered online and it accidently tracked through quidco. Phoned up, cancelled that and instead ordered direct with telesales - giving him all my details inc card details etc. Phoned today to find out if I was still good for delivery tomorrow and there was no order made after my cancelled one.
Anyone know if carriers have in-store stock availability at all? I know in the past they allowed for a certain number of people walking in rather than pre-ordering etc

UPS has finally updated the tracking, it's sat at Tamworth!

Phoned up, cancelled that and instead ordered direct with telesales - giving him all my details inc card details etc. Phoned today to find out if I was still good for delivery tomorrow and there was no order made after my cancelled one.

I'm gonna risk it in Carphone Warehouse tomorrow morning as they have been the only store in the past that actually had stock around release, although it may be the less popular models (128GB Gold etc)
