I bought a Spigen tough armour in gunmetal grey and a ballistics glass screen..
I have had my phone a week and dropped it twice while drunk.

Once you go 6 you will never go back. Gave my dad my old iPhone 4S to use (he's only ever had a work mobile phone - not a smartphone) and it felt tiny when I was setting it up for him. Even when you compare the 6 to the 5 there is a big difference.
The iPhone 6 feels completely natural to me now, had it for about a 1 month + a half now. Just a massive upgrade all round really.

Phantom glass. It's literally a second layer of gorilla glass that goes on. Truly brilliant but will be needed to import from Canada / USA
100% worth it though you can't feel or see a difference apart from the edge being ever so slightly raised

I still haven't opened mine, it'll be a week tomorrow since I got it. Been not opening it as I need to decide on a case and sort out the sim, but I need to open it and get it checked that it's working fine before the 14 days are up.

My screen protector snagged on something in the morning which pulled it up covered the edge in dust

Well I just opened it but found I need a sim to activate it to get past the setup screens, looks like I'll be popping into town tomorrow to see if 3 will give me the sim so I don't have to wait a few days. I know a couple of people have said it wouldn't lock but I do to want to risk with putting in the giffgaff sim until after the 3 sim.
I saw one of those tempered glass protectors at the phone shop. One of the girls working there had it installed on her iPhone 6 and had managed to crack it on the left and right, and it couldn't cover the curved edges either.
The worst part was that it cost another £12 to order a replacement but that was considered a lifetime warranty.
I'm still in two minds about it... I had never thought about the fact that it feels exactly like the glass on the screen instead if that horrible grippy plastic feel. No idea how she cracked hers so badly from "dropping" it.

While the official leather does feel lovely, I still didn't like the additional thinness. Almost picked up a red leather to go with my black screen but I couldn't justify fifty quid for it.

It can be hit and miss with those. I had a Nexus 4 with a similar curved/melted glass edges, very annoying but they normally accept a return.
And yeah they glass once can crack a bit if the device falls on concert but it feels so much better then the plastic junk, and it doesn't have issues like bubbles etc etc. They just stick on easily and its done.
I got my mate a leather case for his bday and I would not recommend a colour, they don't wear so well, black is the best option.
I had the red iPhone 5 leather case and I liked it more the older and well used it became. I have got the same case for the 6. I never dropped it in the case but they wear in nicely in my view.

It's really good as it doesn't take up any space on your windscreen/air vents, so you can leave it in permanently with no problems (assuming you don't use CD's, but most won't nowadays).
Here's a few snaps of mine with the old GS3 in, easily fits my new 6+ though.
