Iphone 8??

Just hijacking this thread, wife has a 6S and is able to upgrade from tomorrow.

The plan was to always go sim only but as I broke my xperia phone we are tempted to change to an 8.

Would the wife see much benefit moving to an 8?

Although I am not too happy using the windows backup phone I am able to upgrade in December so if the 8 isn't much of an upgrade I would be happy to wait it out.

The wife is more than happy with he 6S but would also be happy to change to an 8 if it was worth while.

£10 sim only vs around £36 for the sake of getting an 8.

The iPhone 8 is a double spec bump over the 6S, its better in every measurable way but honestly I would opt for the Xr, its not that much extra cash and it is a considerable upgrade in specs and design. But you'll probably be looking at an extra £6.50 a month for it or some cash upfront.

Thanks for the info, hadn't realised the 8 was such a step up.

We will see what three can offer on the newer phone also.

It’s a very similar design but the insides are a big jump, much faster processor, better cameras, wireless charging etc. You just have to remember the 8 didn’t get all the features of the X when it released.

But the Xr makes much more sense for the extra £150, all the features of the XS except the screen and 2nd camera, it’s seems like a really good buy.

Had a 8+ 64GB and it was great, no issues at all. Overtime however I found the larger size a bit of an annoyance when trying to use one handed.

Purchased a Xs and it's much more me although there isn't really much difference apart from FaceID and the camera. Just need to sell this 8+ now!

Not sure your man math is quite right there.

iPhone 8 is £599 for starts, the only place I could see a new (not refurbished) phone for £529 was a grey import from HK which neglects to mention duties and VAT will be due at the boarder making it more expensive than just buying it from Apple.

36*24 = £846, so £25 more expensive for a far higher level data, including 6 months Apple music worth £60 and not having to shell out £600 in one hit.

£10/month doesn't get you 30gb data, cheapest comparable sim only tariff is £17/month on Three.

The most data someone can get for £10/month is 5gb or 6gb which is pretty low these days.

The place I am quoting the price from ships from inside the EU, so nothing to add at all. Having purchased 15 plus times from the same place, and spent over £10k and not paid a single penny over the amount on my receipt.

You are assuming the OP wants more than 4-6GB of data? Also since data is getting cheaper by the month, not being tied into a 2 year deals, means by this time next year there will be deals for <£10 with over 8GB, and then 12 months after that probably 15+GB.

So... almost a £100 saving and not tied into a contract for 2 years.

I just got iPhone 8 64 silver from Very, using their new customer 10% discount so £540 for an unlocked model.

It’s my first ever iPhone so can’t compare to others but having come from a S7 edge I can say the iPhone is far superior. The signal is much better than the Samsung too.
As far as an edge screen is concerned, the Samsung was just a pain as just holding the phone would press buttons etc.
The colours look better on the iPhone too. Granted OLED has pure black & is never go back to a LCD TV but for a phone the blacks are fine. Also the power consumption on the Samsung OLED wasn’t that good, even turning half the pixels off with Pie.

I didn’t go for the Plus as thought the size was impractical for 1 handed use or in a small pocket.

Got an 8 Plus, being honest it's a great phone and has never caused me any grief.. but I'm changing it today nevertheless as I tend to swap phones every year. Would say given new phones now are pretty much all screen it just looks/feels dated... but that's me being harsh, still a great phone.

HDR on the stock camera works great...

I could have gone for an iPhone X or whatever but having had the s7e for 2.5yrs I can say an edge screen is just a pain. It may look better but holding the phone is a nuisance, like watching a YouTube video then your grip on the phone will select another video. Maybe most don’t have this issue but I did.
As far as the 8 looking dated, we’ll it is so unless you wanna show off how good your bling phone is then I reckon the dated design is more practical.

I sold my 6 and bought an 8+, it's a great phone. Glad I've got in a Rhinoshield case though.

I went for a 64GB. Which is the same as my 6 I don't have a problem with storage. I pay the 79 pence a month for extra iCloud and swap my music around.

I dont think you would had any problem the X, there is still bezel, haven't heard of anyone complaining of annoying accidental touches.
Its not curved like the Samsung.

But good to hear you're enjoying your iPhone 8.
