I realise that O2 have you by the ***** as far as the IPhone goes so I'm expecting the obvious answer anyway.

But I intend to take out an IPhone contract (after much deliberation over the best method) and I have decided the £30 option would suffice, however I rarely text, 10 - 20 a month max, so would much prefer 125minutes 75texts ran than the vice versa advertised. Would they do this? Or has anyone else been able to do something similar?

nokia 5800 on the o2 200(£25/month) from mobiles.co.uk?
yes I realise its not the iphone, but unless you must have the iphone the 5800 is a very good phone from what I've read.

If you use the phone so little, consider buying it on PAYG and then buying an o2 simplicity contract.

Phone - £352

Simplicity £10 a month (30 day rolling) - 150 mins and 300 texts

or simplicity £15 a month (30 day rolling) - 300 mins, 600 texts and unlimited o2 to o2.

or simplicity £20 a month (30 day rolling) - 600 mins, 1200 texts and unlimited web bolt-on

or simplicyt £20 a month (12 month) - 800 mins, 1600 texts and unlimited web bolt on.

I did consider PAYG but didn't really want to shell out £400 up front.

But youd be shelling out £100 + £30 on the pay monthly contract. £100 for the phone and then £30 a month for 75 mins, 125 texts and unlimited internet.

Its better value for money to go the simplicity route. If you don't want to shell out upfront, then check what rate your credit card gives and then see if its still cheaper (I know theres the OMG dont purchase on a credit card brigrade here, but since your on a contract in the alternative theres no difference). Also the £20 simplicty rolling contract means that you can always cancel the contract if you run into difficulties later on or just find something else you like.

The tenner a month simplicity contract will cost £10 + £7.50 (web bolt on) a month. Consider that as well.

If you won't be using the internet then its a lot cheaper.

I'd also recommend the nokia 5800. You don't have to put up with apple's network lock, price and lack of hardware features. Yes the 5800 doesnt have apple's slick interface and multitouch, but you get 1 years free music, a proper camera and real GPS.

it doesn't come with 'comes with music' just yet from what I've read, thats due in a few months(can't remember when its ment to be).

kanestatton what do you find funny about my reply? it may not be as expensive as the iphone, doesn't mean its crap.

Why are you so set on an iPhone?

The iPhone is a great device, but there are far better handests on the market than the iPhone, particularly when you are restricted to you choice of contract.

The 5800 is a brilliant handset and you'll be able to get that (or a plethora of similar/better spec'd phones than the iPhone) on a contract that suits you.

I appreciate eveyone has differents wants/needs/tastes but I don't see what an iPhone can offer you that other handsets cant especially when the contracts they offer on the iPhone do not suit your needs.

And to answer your original question, no, o2 probably won't be able to offer you different contract terms to those that they advertise.

I've looked at other phones, the only other one I like the look of is the HTC Touch HD, but the short answer is.... I prefer the IPhone.

If O2 aren't going to be flexible I have 3 options:

  1. Take the £30 a month contract 75minutes might just be enough
  2. Shell out for PAYG and go the simplicity route
  3. Go for another phone.... the least likely option.

Yes it is true that they are not flexible at all - getting a different deal to what is on offer is pretty rare and certainly not easy. BUT apparently they also do deals for refurb phones...not sure of the details but mght be worth phoning them to ask.

Oh and what is it with some of the people in this forum, are they on some sort of personal crusade to stop anyone buying an iPhone at any costs?!
