iPhone Missed Calls & Texts

I haven't got the eBay app either, and my phone seems to behave in Farnborough (where I live), but not Guildford where I work.

Can't see this being app related tbh, Mr.Slackworth was prolly lucky :) I've also not got the ebay app.

This used to happen 80% of the time when I called my (now ex) girlfriend. So annoying.

But touch wood my 3GS has been 100% fine so far...

Maybe its a combination of factors?
Im not 100% convinced of my findings on it being because theres a limitation in the OS with the number of connections at once tbh.
As otherwise i wouldnt get calls whilst im browsing the web!:p

I wouldnt be suprised to see the limitation being somewhat network based though, even if to a small extent.
O2 have openly admitted they have capacity problems.
And in areas where theres little to no signal, that'll be exaserbated more i would have thought...BUT, it sometimes happens when im in good signal areas, and has happened in the past with other phones. So maybe its partly that, along with other factors?

I really think this is a network issue. My GF suffers from similar on her 3G on o2, jailbreak free, only around 5-6 apps installed. She has complained time and time again, reset the phone, etc etc.

In contrast my iphone 3G jailbroken and loaded to the hilt with everything, but on Vodafone, is 100% fine, and has never been an issue at all.

I had this problem myself and did a bit of digging around on the Apple forums. Removed the eBay app I had installed as suggested by one member and the problem has been solved.

Maybe you're onto something here - IIRC the Ebay app can be set up to give Push notifications - so it's obviously in the background, utilising the GPRS/3G network.

Any of you that are having these issues, do you have any apps which might require internet access, and utilise Push notifications? (Ebay, IM+, etc)

Not being able to access data whilst on a call is a load of BS.

I've received mail (via push) whilst on a call, and I've browsed the net.

If anything, it's to do with the tolerance in which the phone switches between EDGE and 3G. Back when they introduced the iPhone 3G it was set at a much higher tolerance which meant only the people in the very best areas could get a 3G signal... so they changed it via firmware.

Now it seems that the phone is programmed to switch to the band with the highest level of signal strength. Therein lies the problem.. it's switching to EDGE when 3G is available, and during the switch calls are dropped / not received correctly.

It's plain annoying but it's got nothing to do with data/voice on the same network. In fact the new Verizon DROID mobile was ridiculed because it couldn't do this due to a Verizon network issue, and the iPhone can (because it's on AT&T - GSM).

Sounds like you're in an area where the phone is constantly switching between EDGE and 3G..

3G signal is non existant in central london, its a joke. Biggest city in the country and it lacks decent service from the countrys biggest provider....

Someone claims they rang me and left me a voicemail and hour ago. Someone else claims that for 45 minutes ago.

My iPhone hasn't rung at all, and hasn't found the voicemail yet.

During which I was in my office (EDGE & WiFi), in town (3G) and am now mile away at home (3G and WiFi). It's picked up emails during this, but no sign of the calls or voicemail yet...
