iphone not on O2, whats the benifits?

You can return and get your money back providing you havent opened it up. Or you could just Jailbrake it, activate it then unlock it to work on any sim you have lying around, its now easier then ever, full unlock in under 3 minutes, just do this HERE

wow ace - so this mod will allow it to work on orange as well? or just Tesco / 02 sims?

I know someone mentioned that Orange has EDGE on their network but I assume we'd have to pay extra for that service?

But this means we could use e-mail and internet at speed on the device?

Woah stop the presses, I can now fully unlock an out of box iphone if i went and picked one up from CPW today?

Can anyone confirms this?

I can confirm it can be unlocked to any O2 sim, however to any sim, it should be available now but you might wanna check some iphone forums.

Check the 'Mac Hardware' forum here on how to do it. For some reason a lot of Apple owners don't like mingling with normal people.

(I'm an Apple owner so I'm allowed to say that) ;)

Me to, I sold the upgrade (a N95) and it only cost me an extra £25 to buy the iPhone :D

People must have unlocked to any sim going by the above?

EDIT: I just called Orange and they said their policies changed last week and they now aren't able to upgrade poeple in their 16 month of an 18 month contract as they had previously been able to do......??

Bit angry really as she said it would be £300 to upgrade now BUT as I'm a grade 4 customer (5 being the highest) I could call back in March and they may reduce that cost.....lol yeah right

Yup, Mac forums is the best for iPhone discussion, hundreds of threads about unlocking.

Right I just spoke to Orange again and they can do me a free upgrade, BUT not until this Friday which is my 16 month starts :)

Although they (on the phone) don't do the N95 8gb they said I'd have to go to a retail shop so I know where I'm heading Saturday morning !!

Then they are in the habit of telling porkies to their customers then as the guys said "oh yeah just pop along to your retail store and they will sort you out" lol git

Just to confirm guys that YES you can unlock now to ANY network you wish, the link I posted has made it so easy its untrue.

I have tried mine with O2, Tesco PAYG, Orange and T Mobile. Just be carefull with the data charges though, I very rarely use EDGE but if you use it a lot and your not on the pucka O2 contract it could get pricey.

Just make sure you ask your network the costs, and if possible tweak your tarrif to give you more allowance for data if you think you will be using it

Oh, and I sold the old n95, not the 8gig model, got a decent price for it, it was a few months ago though and it came with a 8gig memory card which I sold with the phone. the 8gig had only just come out and was on Vodafone only, at the time the 8gig were going for huge amounts

Just remember that any Iphone unlock you do may only last until the next firmware update, as Apple tend to break the unlocks each time, just like they do any compatibility between Ipods and anything other than Itunes.
