iPhone questions

To some people it is. Why are you lot so bothered about the iPhone if you don't want it? Is it because you can't afford it or something?

Yes, thats exactly why. I only hate the iPhone becuase I can't afford it. When it comes to phones, I have to scrimp pennies together and I can only afford basic ones. This is why I'm so jealous of iPod users.

Oh wait, is that an N95 8Gb on my desk? Ah. There goes the jealousy arguement then, back to the 'The iphone is substandard piffle for people who lap up hype' then.

Firstly, typing's fine, been using my touch for a couple of weeks and that's not a problem.

2ndly, the forwarding texts, multiple recipients etc I'm expecting in a firmware update, and if not I'm fairly sure there'll be an app to do it from somewhere.

Thirdly, MMS I've no interest in If it was up to me it wouldn't even have a camera. Never understood why you'd want a camera on a phone anyways.

I won't debate on the typing thing, because it is a preference thus moot point.

However, the lack of texting features is more just than a simple oversight on Apple's Part. That is a HUGE mistake, sure they can fix it with firmware update but why was it missing in the first place? It's an idea that's never existed before, hell, it's not even an idea that just came out last year so you can forgive them not include in it. But for a phone that bill itself to do so much, missing such simple features is just plain lazy.

As for bluetooth...........where do one start? You can buy a £20 phone these days with Bluetooth, £270 + contract and without bluetooth is criminal.

The R&D guys at apple must've been too busy thinking about it's touch screen and the nifty web browser and music capability to forget a few utterly simple, basic function as the above. Someone really dropped the ball.

Camera wise, I have the N95, good as it is, its still a camera phone and its not match on my DSLR, or even my P&S. Even my 2mega pixel Canon A60 can beat it, never expect it to be great, so no biggie.

As for MMS, if a phone can display photos, it's criminal not being able to do MMS, with the limitation in bluetooth, and no MMS, the only way it seems you are going to see photos are the ones you download off the net, which without 3G will take you ages unless you are surrounded by wifi spots. And the photos you take on the camera will be for your own use really since you can't share them with MMS, unless you wanna email it but then that'll take a while...........see where i am going with this?

p.s. alos, like Fox said, if you just want a phone to make calls, why pay so much for this phone that is "more than a phone" and missing a few fundamental common features ?

Like I've just said, because I want a phone AND my touch for wifi browsing. An iPhone is both.

Many phones on the market, which are free with an 02 Contract not £270, allow you to listen to vast quantities of music, and browse the web on Wifi.

Infact I've currently got 7Gb of Music on my phone. Guess what, I can also text more than one friend at once as well, and I can send things over Bluetooth!

Exactly. I've got an N95 and an iPhone, both are great devices but for different reasons. Web/email is far better on the iPhone, but the N95's camera is 10000 times better.

Why did you get an iphone and not an ipod touch if this is the case!? You can use the touch for internet/emails.

I think its a bit of an apple/iphone backlash - apple and a lot of the press seem to go on how good the iphone is, when it blatantly isnt the case - I guess its a backlsh to their smugness. No idea why you would say its jealousy!? You get get an iphone and unlock it pretty cheaply - far cheaper than the N95 8Gb (Sim free)

Does it have the touch screen? I'd never have used the net on a mobile device without it. Tried PDAs, the DS and a PSP. All were unusable to me. The touch however is a joy.

yep thats the advantage the iphone has - using the internet is really enjoyable.:) You can of course counter that and say - but you can only use it via Wifi, which is pretty useless on the go. If only it had 3g - so frustrating! (the internet app is almost reason alone to get an ipod touch).

The whole iPhone argument since its release is laughable, and im talking internet wide here, not just OCUK.
Some people give good reasons as to why its bad, most just **** it off.
Personally, Im on the fence. I would like one, but im not going to pay £900 for the privilege. In fact, I wouldnt want to pay half that to be fair.

I even read one forum post where somebody blamed microsoft for Apple having a closed platform. I spat my coffee out at that one. Talk about irrational.

My feeling is this. People like the iPhone. Mainly because it is nice to use. Yes, it is missing key functionality which needs to be added, and yes it is too expensive, and YES they need to sort the locked/unlocked situation out fast, not to mention third party apps.

People are still going to buy it though, and no amount of argument from those of you that dont have, or dont want one will fix that.
Is that rabid? I dont think so. People buy things because they like them, not because they need them, or they fulfill a need.
Most people I know buy phones, use the "cool features" for 5 minutes, and then get bored of it.
I have done the same down the years. Owned limitless numbers of XDA's,MDA's, Windows Smartphones, Treo's. Right now im using a Nokia 6300 because i wanted a PHONE and nothing else.

The iPhone is a clever device, no one can deny that. But it has a few too many flaws at the moment, and im not talking about the lack of MMS or Text forwarding, because I couldnt care less about those features.
What I do care about is being able to install 3rd party apps and not bricking my phone. Anything else doesnt matter.
The moment the platform is open, is the moment you can add all the functionality above and more.
I had a samsung i320 that wouldnt even automatically lock for gods sake, but that still got a good write up. Its just too fashionable to slate MS or Apple these days.

It will be interesting to see what the next few months bring us. Im going to try and hang on for an iPhone v2, but lets see what offers o2 bring us in the run up to Xmas.

The current iphone is pants.. i'd find it hard to believe Apple will be sorting these issues out with a firmware release.

A 2nd generation phone is the apple way... when the current iphone users still have £400 worth of contract left and can't flog their current phone on ebay because its so crippled.

We have a good, rational post, then we have that one. :(

But it is? Why repeat what others have posted?

Apple are capable of better, and in time it'll happen, but this phone doesn't cut the mustard in value/features and most of all, matching whats has been out for years.

Fox, do you know where you can get the N95 8Gb free on a £35 p/m tariff?

Why the hell would anyone buy an N95 , aweful aweful phone, o2 XDA Orbit is where its at, it does all and more than the N95, and it actually has a battery life AND if you so like install the free 'iphone' skin that makes it behave more or less like an iphone. Free on a £35 month contract

It's certainly a good piece of kit in some areas and it looks good too but i for one don't like o2's price plans and would much rather stay with my Flext plan on T-Mobile....Yes, i could unlock it but nothing's gauranteed firmware update wise i don't think.

Add to the fact MMS is must for me......It's a shame because my mate can get me 30% off at CPW :( :D

If you want a brick/pda like the Orbit, with the dire dire OS called Windows sluggish and unintuitive Mobile 6 go for the orbit.:p If you want a 'phone' with pretty much every function possible on a mobile and a good camera, go for the N95 8Gb.
