iPod Classic = Poor bass, what can I do?

I wouldn't call selling something you don't like to buy something better dumb. What is dumb is buying an mp3 player notorious for having poor sound quality then complaining about it having poor sound quality lol.

They can and will. A company is perfectly entitled to charge what it likes for its products... if people are dumb enough to keep buying them because they're a fashion item, that's good fortune to the company.

I had an iPod 5g and it did the job of giving me something to listen to, but when it (predictably) broke after 2 years I didn't bother replacing it. My phone holds the playlists I actually listen to with much better quality.

Really, selling it isn't such a bad idea. The longer you leave it the less you'll get for it, but apple aren't going to refund it because you don't like it - you need to get over that daydream pretty quick. Sell it on and buy something better or leave it on your shelf and buy something better.

For me, I'd rather cut my losses, sell the thing and get something else. If my phone is anything to go by, get a sony.

mmm ipod classics are are regarded quite highly by some people especially gen 5 that have the wolfson dac but some think gen 6 are good as well as there is a shorter signal path, for a start you dont have to use the inferior headphone out you can get a lod (line out dock) this will bypass the internal amp and let you use your own as regards bass get some ultrasone hfi 780 like mine or a lot cheaper ksc75 px100 or porta pros.
I use the fiio e5 amp its £17 ish deivered and has a bass boost button sounds amazing with my cowon and ultrasones

or for a lot more money http://www.redwineaudio.com/iMod.html edit they only convert 4th and 5th gen

I've just registered onto head fi and they say the 6th ipod(what i've got) is an excellent player in standard form -quote Red Wine Audio

their moto "sorry about your wallet" is true ,you will probebly spend a fortune if you get addicted the new sennhieser and ultrasones willl be >£1k
their members for sale forum is very very good and a great way of getting cheap audio stuff

Right, Hi guys,

I've got an iPod classic, under 1 year old, I've finally had enough of the poor bass it produces, with and without the equaliser on.
Its nothing to do with the EQ, or my uprated Sennheiser CX300 headphones, its just poor quality of all iPod classics, I did a google search and many people have the same problem.

My question is what can I do? Will Apple replace it? Refund it? Try to sort it out?

I've searched this forum and it came up with nothing of the same topic, which is suprising as there are a number of audiophiles on here I believe....

PS my Sony Ericsson mobile phone > this iPod's sound quality.
Dude, anything beats an iPod for audio quality imo. Even my Touch and iPhone are rubbish compared to the many better players out there. I actually gave away my Touch and bought an iRiver Clix 2 because I was so sick of the thing.

how is the iRiver?
Top bit of kit. Sadly I keep sitting on it, since I keep it in my back pocket during journeys. I fear it wont last long.

Superb audio quality, not the best interface obviously due to the screen size...but what a screen! (AMOLED)

Hi,

I was also dissapointed with the ipod 5th gen sound quality I had. I bought some cx300's which did improve it and the bass too improved they are definately good low price headphones. I even tried Some sure se110's but these are notoriously bass light and so were even worse with the ipod.

I was then forced to replace the ipod due to the wife leaving me and taking the ipod  So then I bought a second hand 8gb sony nw-a808 for £45 and with the sony headphones it was supplied with it knocks the complete *$*£ out of the ipod with every single piece of music I have played on it.

I know the advice is hard to swallow but your only real option is a different player dont waste your money on things to try and make it sound better. As has been stated above I wish I had researched before buying my ipod instead of falling into marketing trap. I sure did when I replaced it and have no regrets.

Cheers,
Hugest

if you look in the picture i posted behind the fiio is some cx300s ,i wouldnt judge any player with these , i only use them at work where its very very noisy i think good earphones/headphones (properly driven )are needed to judge a player i.e like my ultrasones or other good makes that arnt too coloured
imho of course

Hi everyone,

I recently bought an ipod touch 2gen 32GB and have been pretty dissapointed with the sound quality :( I was just wondering if anyone had any experience in amping this player?

Were the results worth the outlay? I'm currently using some Denon AH-C751's, so it's by no means a poor set up.

I was thinking about buying this: http://www.ibasso.com/en/products/show.asp?ID=37

Which can be had for around £100.

I was just wondering if you think it might be worth getting this, or alternatively selling the itouch and getting this when it comes out:

Obviously the itouch is a lovely device, it's just that with an amp it loses that portability. My bet would be that the sony sounds pretty amazing too....

I would appreciate any thoughts :)

if it (iTouch) sounds so bad - why is it a lovely device?

The whole point (for me) of having a portable device is that it sounds great and is portable - not one without the other.

Ditch the iPod - get yourself a Sony or a Cowon player - you will never go back again AND you will save a load of £££ too!

Too late, I've ordered a CMOY Amp and looking into LOD's

Thanks
You won't regret it. I just replaced my gen 5.5 ipod 30gb and 8gb nano 3rd with a 120gb classic + 32gb touch, the sound out of the headphone jack is crap. With a line out connector + an ibasso D10 I was blown away.

Have you ever played with an itouch? it's an amazing device.... much much more than a simple music player! The interface is at least 2 years ahead of anything else around aesthetically it is really special. Amazing bit of tech

But i agree that first and foremost it should be good at it's primary role, I didn't hear one before i bought it sadly, and the deal i got couldn't be turned down. I was just wondering if it would be worth amping it...

I will probably sell it and get the sony anyway.... seems to be the best of both worlds from what i've been reading today

You really need an external headphone amp with most of the iPod's as the amp inside the iPod is rubbish. Will sound a millions times better with one.

People really need to make this more clearly, I've had my iPod since April 2008 and I've only just started looking into amps and lod's

If anyone is interested the new sony 16gb and 32gb itouch rival has been placed for pre-order on a well known site for £283.00 and £214.00 respectively.

I think my itouch is going to be replaced :)
