Hi guys, I have finally decided to get an Ipod Classic but have a few questions for the specialists:p.
The only difference I can really see between the two models is the space (80gb vs. 160gb), is there any other differences between the two?
Also, which one would any of you recommend, main criteria is really just battery life and size, how thick is the 160gb version in real life?

Just get the 80 tbh, the 160 really is a beast. :p

Unless of course that extra 10 hours of battery and 2 of video is important to you. :)

Hmm, is just that I will be converting all my music to the apple lossless format (about 100 cds) and i'm just worried about space :).
With the 160GB version I could have ALL my music + all my films/ tv shows on it and still have space left but doesn't the player slow down the more data that's on the harddrive?

I've noticed a bit of slowdown occasionally on my 30Gb Video which is about 97% full.

Fatty chart below. :p

The new 80Gb classic is more or less the same as my old 30Gb. :)

Thx for all the advice guys, have decided to go with the 80GB version :).
Will post pics and thoughts once I get going, quite amazing to think that this will be my first Ipod.
Also ordered a foofpod just now, gotta have some style:).

Check out my "160GB Classic.. ARRIVED" thread for pictures :)

I've sold the black iPod classic now though (gone Silver).

I just never got to enjoy the black finish :(

..it always looked dirty, and now I have one that matches my MBP

Capodecina baby !¡

Well, finally got a hold of my new Ipod after lectures today and my initial thoughts are as follows:).
First of all, this thing is very thin, i expected it to be a bit smaller though but it feels good in my hand and the aluminium finish looks really nice.
I'm just wondering why on earth you don't get any sort of accesories with your Ipod, where is the install cd or cheap cover, even a crap mp3player gets a cover.
Installation of Itunes was easy, so is the music store, just click and you've bought a song.
So far, im impressed, no issues with getting it up and running, although I'd expect a company like Apple to atleast include more in the pack than just a usb transfer cable.

Back in the day the iPods came with docks, in-line remotes, wall chargers and even a CD with iTunes on..

Now, as you say, you get an iPod a USB cable and a brief guide.

I would have expected a cover though as my 5g Video came with one thanks to all the 1st gen Nano owners whining about scratches. Although, you propably won't get them on the classic as the front isn't plastic. :p

On the subject of the store, double click to preview a track. :)

Other than that.. I'm glad you're happy with it.

Oh, and buy this. ;)

Well done, and congrats on the purchase.

Now be sure you type iTunes and iPod correctly from now on! ;)

It's one of my pet peeves, just like some people get annoyed with grammar ;)

Lol, I shall make sure that in the future I will spell it iTunes and iPod ;).
Is there a button in iTunes (;)) that allows me to automatically remove dead files/files that don't exist?
Everytime I burn a new cd to apple lossless and remove the old files the files don't dissappear in iTunes.

Due for release as iTunes 7.5, the software update will offer increased stability and better management of duplicate song and video entries, people familiar with the matter say.

:)

Edit: posting from my iPod touch :p woot woot
