Hiya, off to the states next week and was thinking of getting a touch over there. Are there any isues with doing this that anyone is aware of?

thanks

Don't think so, just don't get caught by customs or you might be taxed.

Apparently the US iPods don't have a volume limit like the EU ones, so it's all good :)

Wonder what they would look for? if it was unboxed and stuff would they worry? Was even thinking about taking my mbp as then i can start playing with my touch whilst over there (much to my wifes disgust i expect!) If i did that then it would look as if i had in all along....

Whats this with the volume then?

There's no problem with it being unboxed etc, but if you bought it home in a box in your hand luggage, and especially if it's from the US they may question it, i'm sure you'd be fine if you keep the actual iPod in your hand luggage and put the box in your suitcase.

Well the US iPods can be played louder than ours can, as we have a law limiting it iirc. I think I read it on this forums somewhere.

I guess the wi-fi is the same over there as it is here? just add your isp info and off you go?
Not looked into the whole wi-fi side of things on the touch yet as was just making sure there was no known issues from getting one from the US first.

Thanks for your replies, bugger was not really wanting to take my mbp aswell, but not sure i could wait till i get back to play with new toy ! :p

Nope, no wi-fi issues, will work fine.

It was me!

I bought a MBP 15" and an iPod touch while out in the US. As long as your sensible and get rid of the boxes, then customs shouldn't have too many questions if your actually stopped. It works fine and only the volume setting is different from any other iTouch. I've updated the firmware and its fantastic! International warranty with Apple, so no issues there either. I even got a nice education discount when I bought it too

Hi, i guess your in education then?....if not whats your secret ! :D But yeah, i will take it out of its box and stuff, and may take my mbp to get it all going etc, not sure yet, otherwise they may want me to turn it on...and it won't be working until i synce with itunes.

My mrs is a school teacher, but the guy in the Apple store didn't ask for any proof :)

Of course it will be working! Get a charger for it, use it in an Apple store for free net access, load up some pages and save some bookmarks, add some music from iTunes. Use it while away and enjoy :D

You can usually always get away with saying your in uni etc with Apple, they never seem to bother with asking for proof etc.

Ah right, hmm not sure i will get away with saying that i train people at work ! lol
Yeah but if i do not take my mbp i will not be able to get any tunes on there? hmmm i have only ever had a nana (the orig ones) and that would not do anything until i connected it to my machine. Are they different now then? Will be in San Francisco for 3 days then off around the west coast, so not going to be near many apple stores, just when i get one in san fran.

The wi-fi on this device, is it only for itunes etc? heard that this is the case. If thats the case then i guess its already setup on the device? Sorry for all these questions guys.

Noo, it's the internet, like any website.

There's a thread in here for people to say 'Hi' from their iPod Touches.

Edit: here :)
