IPS for FPS?

Update:
Well in the end I got the monitor:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=17&catid=949
Asus VX229H 22" Widescreen AH-IPS LED Multimedia Monitor - Black

I had a think and although I play a lot of FPS, I am nowhere near a pro! I consider getting a K/D ratio of 1.xx as good enough, as I shot more people than shot me, and that's the overall score I get in most games I play, so am far from being pr0! But I enjoy the games!

I have used the monitor for a few days now on cod, titanfall, Wolfenstein and watchdogs and I don't personally notice any issues with the blur or ghosting. This could be because of the monitors I have had in the past, but regardless I am happy and the picture quality is great. Makes all my games look really good with my 7970.

I have also tried fifa on my PS4 and that is really crisp aswell.

Thanks for all the advice...

Those on a budget I would recommend this monitor!

Hi Luz,

I also got this monitor recently, just wondering if you set it in gaming mode for gaming. It seems relatively good to me although sometimes too bright in Battlefield 3 but Battlefield 4 in particular can look too bright/almost cartoonish at times?

I believe Crysis 3 looks good.

Adjusting in game brightness made BF3 ok, nice looking game but BF4 on the other hand the colours can look weird in light areas / not the right colouring but indoors / dark areas looks good.

Cheers,

Lewis

I hesitate to ask this but here goes :p

Has anyone got a Korean import IPS that overclocks to 120hz? And if so, can they compare it with a decent TN screen @ 120/144hz?

I imagine there will still be a discrepancy in GtG but is it enough to notice in amateur FPS playing?

My Qnix is OK with the right colour profile and Radeon Pro active vsync but I wonder if I'm missing out on the new TN goodness... :(

Yes but keep it at 96hz otherwise get an ever so slight distortion.

I also have the benq xl2720t but I don't use it, gave it to Mrs for her to connect her laptop to.

If I played super competitive fps games still then the qinx or any ips wouldn't be ideal, certainly not for twitchy shooters, still perfectly playable though. Now I prefer colour and clarity for dark souls/diablo...etc so it's perfect and cost very little in comparison.

The only one I.may swap it for is the swift as colour is supposed to be excellent, but I'll judge that myself when I see it, if it's good then ill keep it, if not then that's 600 odd I can put towards something else.

600 squid still feels a little steep for me.

OTOH I spent nearly as much (550) on a Yamasaki Catleap when they were in relatively short supply (accidental OC versions that is)...

On the third hand :) those 34" superwides are temptingly just out of reach...

Just realised I've been absolutely no help to the OP whatsoever :D

Yeah it is, certainly not a 400 quid improvement but will see when I get around to it. Hopefully some other 1440p alternatives with decent colours will be close to market

As many other times has been mentioned, no problems with motion blur or playing online fps. Ask all the scouts I manage to headshot in TF2, or our very own Knubj3 who gets sniped by me usually while rocket jumping somewhere in the distance :D

Like everything, you adapt to any difference and become good with it.

^^

So true

I have been using IPS for the past 6+ years and never had a problem, still come first 95% of the time when playing infantry in BF 3 and 4 with a k/d of 4+ usually (there are times I even get 20+ k/d!) and 20+% + accuracy (since getting the zowie fk1, that is pushing to 25+% though :D)

No doubt TN 120/144Hz, gsync etc. will be better but IPS is certainly not as bad as what some people make it out to be these days.

I do notice motion blur and would like to reduce it but not to the point where there is none.

My biggest gripe with 60HZ, non gsync screens is screen tearing, in some games it is fine but in others it is extremely bad (looking at you wolfenstein & bioshock infinite!). Even 120/144HZ monitors have screen tearing but it is less noticeable.

Really hope we see an ultrawide/21.9 freesync monitor sometime soon. It is worth having these ultrawide IPS screens just for the 21.9 aspect ratio alone! Can't stress just how much more immersive films and games become.

I have an IPS screen though 60hz Looks great much improvement over previous monitor (TN) that said i need to play games with Vysnc on because if i dont then i will get very obvious screen tear (to do with refresh rate not being able to keep up or something)

its a AOC i2369vm just in case any fps fans wanted a cheap monitor and were considering it.

Can still play fps no problem but only with vysnc on (and the limitations which come with that)

I use a 27" 120Hz Samsung monitor on my main PC and my gaming laptop has an 14" 1080p IPS screen. I can see the difference in both image quality and motion although that may be also due to the pixel density on the laptop as much as the IPS. I soon adjust and the IPS looks OK in fast games. If I was choosing a new monitor between the two I think I would still go 120/144Hz but in my experience IPS isn't too bad for gaming.

Ive been using the 29 inch AOC 2560x1080p PLS screen for a day and i must say its a pretty good pls screen even for gaming. Yes i can see the difference in the refresh rate coming from a 120hz but it OCs out of the box to 75 without an issue and while it suffers from a bit of motion blur(could be the slower pixel response im noticing) its still a pretty good gaming experience, even in games like BF4. It feels more fluid than the previous LG 34UM65 ive tried. I can recommend this monitor and considering the price its really a steal.
