iRacing

Just did a tiny bit more practice, started off with a setup I found on the forum but it was a pile of turd so resorted to the baseline again but this time with 16.2 gallons starting fuel.

I also tweaked the brake bias to 57%, which was possibly a bit too far even for me and I do like a twitchy car, and knocked the rear ARB arms up by 2 notches, not that I noticed a change from this, still need to find a way to get the front to bite a bit more...

Anyway, slowly finding the 'feel' of the car but it is taking me a while, only a slight improvement to 1:21.337 about 3 laps in (so definitely more fuel than the last PB, not saying much though :p), although I ended and was ~0.5s up on that when I went way too deep on the brakes into the chicane, almost caught it but not quite :p

As for fuel, some rough back of a fag packet calculations:

I was seeming to use ~0.6-0.7 gallons per lap.

Assume worst case 79s laps, and 30 mins is obviously 1800s so ~23 laps (rounding up) gives us 16.1 gallons, so the 16.2 will probably make it although I'll be going up a notch or two for the first race and then checking fuel left, I find I'm not talented enough to really see a massive difference in the odd gallon here and there.

You guys do realise that Iracing are going to change the weight and grip of the RUFs in the next update?

No I didn't, but I don't spend much time on the forum or reading the news on the front page.

Any idea what sort of changes are going to be made? I'm assuming less grip and more weight.

I hadn't heard anything about the weight but knew the grip/tyres were being tweaked, from what I've heard it's not going to be a massive difference but enough to stop the c-spec rolling...

I'd love to get into iRacing, but I don't have a wheel anymore. I had a crappy MS Sidewinder wheel from years ago, which was actually alright for me - can someone recommend something as cheap as possible for me to get into this?

Heard lots of good things about the Logitech DFGT if you can pick one up second hand (~£70 ish?) and iirc the Thrustmaster 430 or something was ranked pretty similar but not really sure on that one.

You can get wheels for less but frankly it's not worth it, they're all terrible :p

Been doing a lot of RUF practice at Road Atlanta and Interlagos to get myself ready for next week.

Haven't touched the setup yet getting around 1.21.5's with fuel in. Not sure if I feel confident with the car to race it next week I seem to have lost my long run consistency after not racing for around 1 year and a half.

Btw anyone here use a clubsport shifter? Looking at investing in the sq one.

I think I'm the same with the confidence, it seems so far like I need to slide on entry to get the speed, yet just a little bit too much and it goes around on me, really not got the feel on the car/ntmv5 to handle it like I can in the Radical.

But on the other hand personally I find races the best time to learn about a car/track and I improve far more doing races than practicing, so I'll definitely do several races but it might be a bit messy :p

I'm definitely racing next week, even though I haven't raced for months, it's easy enough to keep out of the way of other drivers if you're not so confident. As Skill says, you learn more and get better by racing.

Used my day off work wisely and done a couple of the week 13 races. My last race I managed 1.21.xxx's consistently with only 2 inc's but the sharp right hander before the esses I just can't get right.

I tried a couple of races earlier, went badly, but I think the weather conditions are quicker than the default test ones at least, one of the few clean laps I did was early on so low tyre temps/pressures and high fuel and was only a tenth off my PB...

Yeah it was the 24hr du fun 2 combo that had the RUF (and McLaren/Radican) at Road Atlanta yesterday, unfortunately new track today so Indy Road which is a bit meh, but might try and do a practice/some races just to get a bit more driving in the car

Nice :)

Did a bit more practice today, total about 30 laps I guess, some setup tweaks, every time I think I might be getting a grasp of the car on the limit/when sliding it goes and bites me :p

Did just manage a 1:20.883 though, optimal is way lower though at 1:20.006, the benefit of finally cracking the 20's though is now I feel like I could sit at low 21's for 'race pace' semi-comfortably

My optimal is 1:20.5 at the moment.

I do feel as though I can get down to that time and maybe even lower. I know where there's time to be gained for me, it's just the small matter of doing it.
