iRacing

yeah best tip for Rookie - is try and stay out of trouble - let them take each other out in first few corners - usually first corner! and reap the rewards.
Dodgem cars at the start!
Do t think a lot a racers understand what rookies is for. The number of dive bombs that ive had to pull aside, but tbh I just let them past me, but even then I'm getting hit or pushed off. Will have a few races later hopefully it's better

update: out of rookies:)

Hi all, I'm looking at picking up a second hand setup and try iracing.

Currently eyeballing the moza r3. Assume this and ok choice?

My desktop has some oddities so can anyone recommend a space friendly rig that I can attach it to , so that it is placed in front of the desk?

I think the R3 is a bit weak. Unless you're a very casual player. I bought the R5 and now have my eye on the R12. It's not that there isn't enough force, but there's not much headroom, and the wheel can clip. The R5 does give enough force though, although I don't like it too strong.

But if you like just mild forces it'll be fine - the R3 still gives a bit more FF than the standard Logi wheels.

This is a very good option for a low level rig, my mate has one and uses it with a Moza wheel and pedals. It's a very solid option. The design of it looks like it should be flex city but you really don't notice it at all whilst driving unless you go out of your way to do so.

You can also do some really simple mods to it that make it easier to move out of the way if you need some space

Oh also, the Moza firmware / software is all a bit tricky. Lots of folk with issues. I advise if you get it working just keep the firmware you're happy on and don't swap about until and unless there's a major update / reason to do so.

Thanks for the quick responses.

That rig does look great. Are there any options when you don't have enough space. Anything I can slide in front of a desk and slide away when done (using my office chair as my seat?

I'll have a look at the R5 but can see this becoming a snowball effect with costs etc.

There is this version which doesn't have a seat.

You can just put your desk chairs wheels into the slots on the rig and it should still be pretty steady under braking. However I'm willing to bet you'd quickly wish you had a static sitting position in a proper seat rather than a desk chair. Id personally pay the extra £80 and get the original one i linked but if space is the primary issue then this one i've just linked is a good option. There are similar alternatives by other brands as well that may be worth checking but the quality will probably fall off a fair bit as the price gets lower.

I’ve currently gone through exactly the same as you. I went Moza R5 bundle and Omega GT wheel stand which fold away. Great set up and folds away, relatively easy.

Man the sign up process to get the iracing code from motorsport uk is absolutely painful.

I now have to wait 2 hours to get it emailed.

The profile page is a mess.

The profile page is a mess to find the paid part which I found ironic. The I received the code within minutes.

I have found the key to the wheel stands if you are using it with a desk is to have the tray to attach the wheels of your desk chair. I’m missing that right now and the chair moves under hard braking. The only solution I have found is to either put something heavy behind you or wedge something soft between the chair and something else behind you. I am using the load cell brakes though.

I do miss Iracing - not played in many years since moving house and putting everything in boxes never got round to setting it back up. I read this thread from time to time. It looks like the equipment is a lot more affordable and that fold away rig could be something I could use to get back racing, now I no longer have a dedicated sim/man cave room.
I'd love to get back racing one day.

The stand I mentioned comes with the seat tray.

Which stand did you get?

They have 3. The apex and pro are foldable.
Apex is meant to be more solid but the moza r5 peddles aren't compatible. Variable messages on reddit saying the pro has a little wobble?

Moza r5 pedals worked for me but I have got some Simjacks now.

All setup. Glad I went for the R5, surprisingly high-quality. Doesn't feel like plastic. IRacing - wow, feel every bump, grit on the road and grip.

I'm immersed. Two races yesterday, played it safe, qualified middle of the pack, finished 9th on the second one. Building up the safety rating to get out rookies.

I've started with the BMW M2, a friend suggested the MX5, so I'll switch over and build up confidence.

The M2 is incredibly difficult to control as a starter car. Mx5 is great fun to practice and race with.
