iRacing

They will be super dead after the first season, the average iracer is now pretty young and only cares about GT3 or Porsche Cup because it's what the streamers/youtubers all drive.

A car like a Caterham is ultimate boomer/Gen X content, if they had released it 15 years ago when sim racing was still a middle aged/old man hobby it would have slayed but the kids ain't arsed about this type of content.

Hopefully I’m wrong but I doubt it

Username checks out? :D

Nah, I think unfortunately you're right, I'll almost certainly pick them up and add them to the GT4 stuff next season, or at least try them out. But feels like they'd fit in the same niche as things like the Radical which (the SR8 at least) is great fun to drive but dead.

Jumped back into this after a near 2 month break. Up to 4.3k iRating so tis pretty difficult now.

Jumped in with both feet by doing the 2 hour 40 minute IMSA endurance race on Sunday afternoon in the GTP class. Managed to bad a P3 which was waaaaaaay better than I was expecting.

Have done half a dozen IMSAs at Le Mans over yesterday and today. Results have been a bit hit and miss. Though because Le Man brings out all the big guns, finishing in P10 still rewards iRating.

Did win a nicely levelled open race this morning though

I was worried that with the refresh they'd make give it the infinite grip hax they gave the GR86 and M2 which is boring as hell, but that looks 'ok' it seems... I reserve judgement until I drive it though :p

Technically/officially managed a full season in the GT4's now, 8 weeks counting but most of those were only one race with my limited time and also practicing a bunch/'too much' to be confident, looking forward to doing it again next week but with a bit more confidence in the car actually doing more racing, including the open setup (even if I just use the fixed on there tbh) and definitely want to do some longer 'endurance' 2-3 hour stuff :)

Also getting back into VR, posted elsewhere but dusted off my OG HTC Vive and it's still amazing so picked up a HP Reverb G2 for ~£107 which I'm looking forward to, bit cheaper than the Bigscreen Beyond 2

Not sure they gave an estimated time but it's been a while hasn't it... It was meant to go down at 12:00 UTC and like you say still down... Demo drive ain't that fun :p

Preliminary schedule is on the forums though if you're bored waiting...

Yeah I ain't that bored:p just seemed to be taking an age. I have a look later or in morning before work . Cheers

for me the caterhams are just more a sideways version of the mx5:p doesnt excite me enough to put my hand in my pocket, but will pop 13th Week Track Day to watch the drifting caterhams;)

I bought them cause why not

Great fun to drive but you need to use the throttle to get it turning and it's just on a knife edge so really easy to spin, fun but hard, so yeah it'll be dead in short order...

I suppose it's a good way to master rwd before hitting rwd higher up gt3 etc

Not sure it is, it feels so different from pretty much any other car I've driven tbh :p

It's way more 'snappy'/knife-edge than even a GT4 on cold tyres, the driving style seems more get it slowed (with limited 'trailbraking' rotation used so much in the GT4's) then use a tiny bit of throttle to get the rotation rather than trailbraking and then hope it does snap into a spin when you put more throttle on...

Just did a few more laps around Lime Rock with it and it's maybe not quite as sketchy as Okayama but still there, oddly where at Okayama my pace seemed 'ok' today it's way off, either the track doesn't suit me or other people have gotten good whilst this old dog cannae keep up

Also got a new (to me) VR headset today, after trying my OG Vive a bit ago I liked it but it was basically unusable, picked up a HP Reverb G2 for cheaps and it's a decent step up, at least in pixel count, definitely much more usable though, looking forward to it :)

Just tried the Caterham again after the update today and it's a whole different animal today. Well kinda. More like someone had turned it to 11 and it's back down at a 7 now...

Before the update it was a touch understeery on turn in (never driven one but have heard this about real ones tbh) but just the slightest touch of throttle gave rotation but anything more and it snapped insanely.

Now however, still a touch understeery, still can rotate with throttle but needs a chunk more and basically no snappage. Yes it'll go if you're silly with it but now you can actually be agressive on turn in, almost flicking it into the corner and hold the slide through the corner with the throttle inputs, basically how I kinda expected it to be really!

I still did badly, although not entirely my own fault, honest, but I also jumped into a race with just 11 minutes practice on that car/track, expecting the old crazy caterham and getting a whole different car to learn.

Now though, now it might not be a dead series. Probably will be but not as sure as I was :p

was watching Suellio Almeida with the 420, showing how it is after update with loads of front end understeer compared pre update. a good watch for those using the 420

Is that a video or stream? I like his stuff on YT and watched the video he put out yesterday on the Caterham pre-update, impressive how stable he made it look, I was not quite as smooth :p

I think he posted in comments he was going to do an update with the updated car, like you say loads more front end understeer and a more stable rear end, just doesn't snap as much, so like I said it's almost a flick to force rotation into the corner and then balance it with throttle, at least that's how it feels for me, be curious to see his view...

Was actually just looking at his/their academy stuff, might give it a go at the free tier and see what it's like. My mate who races in real life and has recently joined is showing some decent pace already, I need to start getting gud really quick :p
