iRacing

i can take some of the okayama corners faster in the mx5 cup car.

dont get me wrong i like the skip the driving position is great but i just dont think i could ever get any good with it.

I got a 1:47.934 on Okayama in the Skippy last night. Is that decent? What's a standard lap time?

I mostly got 1:48s, and a couple of 1:49s as well. I was very please with my consistency :D

One thing I noticed last night actually, when the race started it felt really slow, like everyone (including me because I was playing it safe) was going slow round the first lot of corners. It made me realise that I'd been trying to drive round the track too fast, perhaps because of the FOV, which is now fixed. I kept up at the start easily, it was just annoying that someone crashed in front of me and ended up clipping me and damaging my car.

I can't wait to race again tonight.

its not under braking its when taking a corner at what doesnt feel like a fast speed the car will just start to oversteer suddenly
Ah, that'll be the old "going too fast" thing. :-)

The Skip has street type tyres. Consider that when chucking it round a corner and what seems like a slow speed suddenly becomes rather fast.

The trouble with sim racers is that we are inevitably drawn to fast cars because it's only that visual sense of speed which makes up for the total lack of g-forces which are so essential to the thrill of real racing.

On iRacing you have to be pretty darned skilled to handle the fast cars, because the physics are so unforgiving. That's why the vast majority of the participation is always down at Rookie/D/C. But adjusting to the slower, more manageable cars takes some doing if you're used to more user-friendly forms of pretend racing. The physics are just as tough, it's just that you have more time to recover from a bad situation... once you work out what you've got to do.

I'm still trying to crack that one properly after three years driving the thing. :-)

Glad the FOV change helped you SS, :D It's one of the things that got me at first that and the force feedback settings on my g25 now im happy with both its much easier to learn..

Try not to change that FOV when going car to car, else your have to keep learning the tracks over and over as the approach and angle of the bends may feel different with a FOV change.

Out of intrest what FOV have you settled on ?

Seems I'm on the committee for the radical...

I change my fov from car to car, not a great deal, like going from the rad to a proper tin top it feels like it need adjusting..

The skippy has no down force that's why its hard to drive, need to carry speed through the corners, I can't drive the thing...

I went for 70 in the end, although I didn't touch any of the settings which were asking how far I was from the screen or anything. I can't believe the difference it has made to my consistency :) Thank you.

Bet I do your head right in then josh..

Well...

:p

Nah, you're ok, I can put up with a fair bit fine and you tend to do short statements (at least during the race, and I don't care elsewhere), it's the guy's that have conversations/arguments that make me turn the volume right down...

I dunno if you were in the race but a couple of weeks ago two guys had an incident early on and I swear they were arguing back and forth over voice comms for 4-5 laps, I turned the volume off on the 2nd lap of hearing them go on but can still see the name boxes pop up obviously, that's when it's useful to know where the volume keys are :)

or the old everyone trail braking around corners....
No idea, I've never done it. Which is probably why I'm relatively slow (compared to the best drivers) but consistent.

Ultimately it's up to us all to find a car and a style which suits us. But there's no easy route on iRacing, whatever you choose to do. That's what makes it satisfying... and frustrating. :-)

lol i just tend to have a quick rant when i race.

no i want in that race i dont think, but i was in 1 early last season that 2 Italians were going at it it told them to shut it, they were proper doing me nut in..

so zandy, cant get the flow going, told myself i was gunna have a brake and come back for silverstone, but ive done a few laps 33.5 was my best but keep locking my brakes randomly no matter what i do with the bias.

and t10 is a right pain, i can get up on my pb all the time but loose it going thought t10 and the audi s's, i really stuggled here last season tho but im miles better, still might sit it out tho.

It works like this Drive down a country road at 70 mph and it makes you feel like a Finnish rally driver. hedgerow flying past at a billion mph do the same speed on a big wide open motorway and you can virtually take a nap it feels that slower.

The more you move it forward the less you see of the sides. Seeing the sides moving past us fast and blurry gives our brain the illusion we are travelling at 100mph.

can peps that race the radical and play with 3 monitors take a pic of their screens so i can seen what they see of the car on cockpit view as trying to sort out my FOV

i use 133 fov in the radical over my 3 screens, thats sitting about 30 inch away in my obutto...

Glad I could help another ocuk I-racing newbie like myself, what was you using before SS the default 78?

yea i bought the radical last night and that feels much better to drive ,maybe i will try the star mazda or something at some point.

im still only C class though

So for the radical, I've said we should have mid ohio in and use daytona as the roval track and try get sebring in the mix somewhere..

Any other tracks you lot like to see in the rotation that I can put forward???

Also were thinking of dropping watkins as the opener...
