iRacing

Nice time, not sure I really classify for the title of beast though :p

Quite happy with my time though, last season I managed a 56.4 in practice and 56.7 in the race, to be ~0.6s off after a fair while of not driving seriously/well is good :)

It is all in the practice, both car and track but especially track here, to get a good time particularly in sector 1 requires balancing the car on the throttle all the way through the esses, great fun but takes so much practice to get right consistently

I still find the walkthrough really useful, even though I know the car/track and even here had a few things that I definitely approach differently it serves as a nice warm up to the week rather than going in rusty on the thursday/friday :)

Yer noticed you havent been around so much. But let me have my moment lol im used of you coming to lap me towards the end of a race. Ive still got a bit more in me if only i could stop the 1xs recon i can get another .3 to .4 but everytime i go up i throw it away at deggers or the hairpin. Really let down by my pedals.

Agree with you on both accounts, Its all about balance the lotus taught me a bit of that the weekend you have to drive that car on the throttle. Getting to grips with driving the rad on the throttle now to keep her balanced.

Defo will put more time into practice next season and my even qualify. Ill hopefully be able to attend more driving schools in the winter months. Not just turning up with half an hour or so's practice.

Happy with how im progressing only got 2 weeks on the board for this season. Even then Its only been a race or two.

Next for me is a full radical season and taming the beast, aka the lotus 79

Wheel arrived today. Been having a blast, though my positioning of the pedals is very awkward, my chair is to blame for this so after a 20 lap race my brake foot was aching like a sob. Doesn't help the pedals are **** too!

What pedals out of curiosity?

But yeah, with times like those in a race you should be nicely competitive (It's awful seeing the likes of Stuart putting in 55's but luckily he's in the minority :p)

I find races are ultimately the best practice, you kinda have to keep your concentration up and knock in the consistent laptimes, something I only rarely find I can do in practice sessions

Is this the DFGT? If so yeah, the brake pedal is just way too soft, the G25's are massively better if you can find someone with a spare set to sell, otherwise the other options are quite expensive...

G25 mate, need the Bodnar cable or whatever its called everyone keeps telling me to get. Don't get me wrong the pedals are not bad but I can really tell now that the standard 256 res is a little low. You brake that mm to much and that the difference between making the bend and locking up :(

I'm getting better at the game and can now feel how inconstant they are with such low res. In the heavy braking zones especially. T1/2 the hairpin and the last chicane. Its very hit and miss sometimes I get it just perfect but on each lap Ill get one of them wrong due to pressing the brake just that mm or 2 to much and lock the car up.

Doing laps with Peter the other night I could see how much better he is under braking there compared to me.

Its a shame as other than that there brilliant. Need a cable asap so I get a much better feel for the brake sensitivity.

Hey all :). Its been ages since I've posted in this thread. I took a break from iRacing for a few months but now I have a massive craving for it. Is now a good time to resub or shall I wait a while for a promotion or something?

Yer Lee when i bought my G27 pedals peps kept saying for me to get a bodnar cable , but they were out of stock,, and i thought ,, fk man wheel & pedals at £200 ( at same time as £800 more on pc upgrade and 3 monitors ) ,,, i said nah ill be fine with out that cable,, well a month or two later i bought the cable ,,and yer would spend the £30 again tomorrow on it :) good buy it was. :) :)

Cheers Joe, thats secured it for me just got to wait for PayPal to clear some funds for me and Natwest to sort my GF bank account out to pay bills then the cable will be bought. Hopefully sometime next week.

Whats the turn around on order - arrives at your door mate ?

I just ordered one of these on Wednesday, and have seen quotes saying that it can turn up Friday if ordered Wednesday, so hopefully in the next day or so I'll be able to give you a current view on how long deliveries take.

I think it was about 4 days m8 ,, was not like instant or on the other hand was not ages :)

is that a ffb wheel???

the pedals will be letting you down yes...

Its a rumble wheel, no full force feedback.

Times are as follows:
Lime Rock Park - Full Course Practice 1:00.955
Lime Rock Park - Full Course Qualify 1:00.532
Lime Rock Park - Full Course Race 1:00.742
Okayama International Circuit - Short Course Practice 1:03.315
Okayama International Circuit - Short Course Qualify 1:03.554
Okayama International Circuit - Short Course Race 1:02.960

My biggest problem at the moment is trying to avoid people when i am lapping them, and also the first corner melees. Additionally it seems that (in the novice series anyway) people just rejoin, and drive back across the line into traffic when they have crashed out. :(

My last couple of races have been destroyed by newbs spinning off, then moving off again into the racing line, taking me out :(

not familiar with times for rookie races mate i just wanted to get out of them so i never pushed really hard as i wanted to stay clean to get my SR up to get to D class...

well a nice new ffb wheel will defo add to your enjoyment if nothing else...

Bodnar cable turned up today, having order early on Wednesday. So now to see if it does make a difference to my times.

worth it then ????

Err, not at the moment - but that might be due to my lack of skills. I can detect a difference in the braking, absolutely. I haven't seen a fall in my times at the moment, but maybe I'm overdriving at the moment, because I want to go faster.

I think it will improve my driving, probably just need to get used to it, but then I've been thinking that I just need to get used to iRacing since I joined in January! ;)
