iRacing

You're probably right.

I did a Mazda race at Sebring and it was close racing between five or six if us from start to finish and there wasn't any contact at all. Just clean and fair racing, it was great.

I hate driving around other cars during races. In the Lotus 79 race last night I was in the middle of 26 cars and I've never made so many mistakes just because I'm so busy trying not to hit the person in front of me and trying not to let the guy behind pass.

I really just don't like following other cars closely as I'm always scared they'll brake early and I'll run right into the back of them.

Seems my G27 h shifter is broken. Doesn't want to go left or right into gears 1/2/5/6 but it goes up and down in the middle fine. Hm.

No its the opposite. It doesn't work as sequential(although there are work arounds). It was working last night while I was testing Asseto Corsa and practicing.

I use the paddles on every car except the Lotus which just happens to be my new favourite car :p Might email Logitech and see what they say.

A good tip is to brake when the car in front reaches *your* braking point. You can brake a little less harshly but lose very little time comparitively.

Have you considered getting the Thrustmaster TH8 shifter? It's a fantastic piece of kit, the only downside is its not as quick as the G25 shifter, for changing from manual to sequential.

Good tip, but it won't help if the guy in front has a braking point that's earlier than yours.

I'm missing something... iRacing is out? Confused how you lot are talking about it as though you have the full game... haha.

It does look really nice and very tempting, just checked on ebay and its around £100 which seems a bit much after just buying CSR Elites.

Paddle shifting ptftftftftftftftft:D Real men use a 5-6 speed manual shifter box.

It is a lot more fun, after racing with the h shifter then going to paddles it feels like there is nothing to do :p

Well, you still need to use some judgement and keep an eye on him obviously.

But even if his brake point is earlier than yours, as long as you're not right bang on his tail (which you shouldn't be if you're both about to hit the braking zone) then this tip would still give you a bit of breathing space.

Are you getting mixed up between iRacing and pCARS?

I only paid £75 for mine from eBay,but the guy I bought mine off isn't selling them anymore. But even at £100 I think it's built so well it would probably last forever.

Are the CSR elites the ones with the loadcell brake and funky clutch mechanism? Are they any good? Would you recommend them over the Logitech pedals? Do you think they help you to be faster?

Paddles tbh.

Also, for what it's worth, if I'm following someone closely and there's no-one right behind me at least I'll brake quite a lot earlier than usual, aim being to be on the brakes before he is and open a bit of a gap, then modulate the braking once he starts to close the gap back up safely if that makes sense...

Yeah, that's them. I prefer them over the G27 pedals although it took a bit of getting used to. I don't know about faster but it made me more consistent as I find it easier to remember how much pressure I put on the brake pedal rather than how far I pushed it down. I haven't tried them against a time I set with the g27 pedals. I might do that in a bit.

Well that's another GT Challenge race wrecked before the end of a single lap. Some dipstick through his car up the inside of me while I inside someone else. There was no room for him so he had two wheels off and then he turned outside and hit me. Screwed up my steering and made the car undriveable.

A 32 car grid is far too many for that track.
