iRacing

Can't catch a break.

Second GT race tonight and half way around the formation lap my screen goes black, I still have sound. Then the screen comes back and I'm crashed into the barriers. After a tow and repairs I leave the pits a lap down.

barmyllama, how come you had an issue with the GT race after giving up the GT races? :p

Sorry, it amuses me, but I know what you mean about rage inducing, sometimes you'll have a fantastic race with close hard racing with someone who shows some racecraft which leaves me at least with a huge buzz, and then the very next race you get taken out by some guy who must've been on crack to be so stupid :)

And, Totality, just to throw my hat in the ring I never get on with PI, just doesn't flow for me really, but then everyone is different and being down under PI will probably get more attention for races in your timezone...

So, first wheel in 3 years. Last one was a Logitech Driving Force. Now I have the Fanatec CSR with Elite pedals (mmm, the brake feels).

Just done a few time trials in the Roadster. Unweildly until eveyrthing has wamred up, then I got my times down to 1:45/1:46. I can still feel there's plenty of corner speed to be had in certain areas on Laguna Seca. I was doing 1:49s in my first trial, my 4th one down and I've got much quicker.

What's the best way to get myself going with this then? Are there better cars to play with or do I need to get myself ranked up? My SR is 2.55 for road already, seemed low when I logged in after not playing since 2010.

Also, what's the best way to be shifting? I don't have shifter but I have a clutch. Should I be clutching every up and down shift?

Is Phillip island for the skippy worth getting?
I'm totally fresh to this circuit - never even seen any real footage of it. And man, it seems like every corner doesn't do what I expect. It's a really weird feeling - like the track designer got into my mind and extracted my driving experience, and created the exact opposite to everything I know.

It's going to take a lot of laps to find any kind of rhythm here - it's really not flowing for me at all.

Don't let me put you off though! It might be really great once I get the hang of it. It certainly looks nice, seems like the sky is particularly realistic here.

Sort of stuck really.

I've turned enough laps of Sebring now to be confident of lapping consistently without any issues.

The Grand Am track this week is Brands Hatch, which I am rubbish at in other sims and only done a few laps in iRacing. I don't fancy spending a week doing practice laps. So if I want to race the MP4 then I have to do in the GT Challenge series and not the Grand Am.

Just done a race without any "inc" or accidents, probably because I qualified first this time and was third on the grid for my class. The trouble was that everyone behind was faster, even a couple of Ford GT's finished in front of me. But I didn't race anyone hard either, I just wanted to get to the end cleanly. I still enjoyed it though.

I'm still trying to go for the five-in-a-row incident-free award. I've done four so many times... then something always goes wrong, and it's usually my stupid fault.

Come drive grand am this week with me, not really drove Brands hatch since the 2 hour race i did about 4 seasons ago. I've done about 5 minutes the weekend in hthe Mp4 just to see how well it goes round. Its not bad at all. Not really had chance to drive it this week and its such a technical track its another one where if you can just stay on the track you can do well in the race.

I have no idea what a good time is and my set seemed to be giving me way to much understeer(so i need to dial that out). But it did seem like we could get on and could be some dam good racing.

if you see me on come join in some laps got to practice this week, If the GT is at philip Island its another by week for me dont have it .

If I see you in practice at Brands I'll certainly join you for some much needed practice, especially as next weeks GT Challenge is at Brands Hatch. So it's either drive Brands next week or Mosport in the Grand AM.

Rock and hard place spring to mind.

Ah, I'm being VERY lazy due to being busy, sorry haha.

If it's only online only, then I don't think it's for me. I'm after a Forza type experience. Half sim half arcade.

Maybe project cars will provide this?

pCARS will have a single player career mode, as well as onike racing. Full controller support and as many assists as you need.

Assetto Corsa is also going to have the choice of arcade/sim handling, but I'm unsure if it will have a single player mode.

It's looking ever more likely that AC is going to have a career mode.

I really do hope so. I miss a Grand Turismo style style game to just sit on the couch and waste the odd hour or so racing, with a pad. I know race 07 is ok on the pad when you get it set up correctly. But thats games never really done it for me apart from the 80's touring cars and the old Lotus cortina around cadwell park :D

Take last night for example, I had a spare hour while I was waiting on tea, I would have loved a few laps on something, but by time I've set the wheel up moved my monitors into place. Decided on which car and track combo i will go with, found a setup that works. (Apart from the MX5 and Radical base setup, built by our very own Gravey. I consider every base setup to be terrible and I just cant drive it.) Also if theres a new build good chance the setups i do have no longer work so requires me to spend an hour running some laps to dial in a set that works for me.

I do long for something thats quick to get into, with decent ai, good selection of cars including the classics. that handle like cars with a FOV that works well with the pc. I could just get a console for these kicks.

But Forza doesn't really do much for me, The latest version of GT5 with better graphics and sounds ported to the PC would be perfect, but never going to happen.

Fingers, toes and everything else crossed.

I think an AC career would be somewhat different to Forza/GT simply because they don't have the vehicle selection. And we don't want any of that tuning nonsense... ;)

Does that mean it's increasingly unlikely to be released this year then?

I've got a PS3 gathering dust in my man cave, even though its connected to my monitor and I do like GT 5, I just don't play it. I think I'm about level 35, with just the endurance races and three or four other series in the top tier to complete. It's probably because online is where I'm happiest to drive, that I dont play it, and GT5 doesn't cut it there.

The weird thing is I will probably buy GT6 and a PS4 when they come out.

Marco Massarutto: Believe me, I understand what you mean and we know that if you guys are so impatient to try it, this suggests that we are trying to deliver something good.

I'm pretty sure you also understand that it's our primary interest to offer to you guys what you ask for, of course is not our intention to make our potential customers bored or annoyed, so if we haven't been able yet to deliver AC, necessarily we must have more than one good reason. The development and the commercial strategies behind a product like this are much more complicated not only than fans might imagine or understand, but also more than we expected too. Managing a product like this is a real challenge from a technical and commercial side. This happen when you try to do something special, even if nothing can assure you will be able to reach your aim. We can only do our best. I can also say that today, Assetto Corsa might be considered a totally different product in comparison with the one we imagined and designed at the beginning. This is the good: the bad is that it requires more time than how was scheduled.

Of course we are not happy about it, just like you . But since when is a delay a news, in the videogaming industry? Anyway, when the release announcement will come, all of you will understand what I mean. Said that, I can only thank you for your patience and support.
Sounds like a significant delay... hard to interpret exactly what he means though... could be console related I suppose.

I'm about the same place as you with GT5. I'll probably end up getting GT6 for PS3, promises to be a much smoother experience, less tedious to navigate, etc. PS4 can wait.
